1. There were two clarifying moments this week for the 2019 Canadian federal election. One was Justin Trudeau calling any questions about immigration "racist" and "intolerant", and the Media Party backing him up 100%. Omar Khadr's Ottawa visit was just the icing on that cake.
2. The other moment was when Maxime Bernier called the CBC "fake news" and called @RosieBarton "despicable". It was even more important than his comments about extreme diversity. Because it showed he understood who his real opponent is.
3. Barton's response -- insulting him again, doubling down, digging in -- proved his thesis true. The CBC won't be any more hostile to Bernier than they were before -- they were already at 100% -- but now they'll just stop pretending they're neutral. Canadians can see that.
4. Compare that with Andrew Scheer's submission to the Media Party, in the vain hopes that they'll let him join the cool kids club. He loves his weekly humiliation at their hands. Like Charlie Brown and Lucy, he keeps thinking maybe this time they won't move the football.
5. Here's my unsolicited advice for Scheer: stop thinking of the CBC as journalists. Start thinking of them as embedded Liberals. Stop thinking that CBC (and CTV) panels are "pundits panels". They're lobbyist panels. Why would you respect them, or dignify them with your presence?
6. Do what Doug Ford is doing (and Donald Trump) -- put out your own video news. Scheer can even rent our Toronto studios again, like he did during the campaign. Ignore the CBC. (Everyone else is -- their ratings are at record lows.) Talk to the people. Fight the Media Party.
7. I've asked my friends in Scheer's office why they blackball the one right wing media outlet in the country (other than the Sun). They say if they don't, the Media Party will do stories about it for a week. It's an honest answer, but it's pitiful -- it shows who their boss is.
8. It doesn't really stop us from doing our job if Scheer blacklists us; Trudeau doesn't talk to us either. It stops Scheer from having face time with our 1,008,767 YouTube subscribers, but that's his business, not ours.
9. Tthe real reason Scheer has to quit his Media Party addiction has nothing to do with us; it has to do with him. He's walking around, always looking over his shoulder, because he knows their next attack on him is imminent. He's got to set himself free from caring about that.
10. When you no longer care what @RosieBarton or the lobbyists panels think about you, you can focus on what you yourself think, and what your supporters think, and what the country wants -- not the state broadcaster. You can be you.
11. That's why Maxime Bernier has energized the party in the past two weeks: he's not actually saying anything new or dramatic. As Angus Reid shows, he's in line with 90% of Canadians. It's just that he's now unafraid, and people love that more than the substance itself.
12. No-one expects Scheer to be a Donald Trump, a Doug Ford or even a Maxime Bernier. They just want him to be himself -- and stop giving his lunch money to the bullies on Parliament Hill. The whole country hates them -- he should, too.
13. If you haven't figured it out yet, that's what the 2019 election is about: Trudeau and the Media Party saying you can't say or think certain things, or you're "racist". If Scheer is terrified of that, he's already lost. But if he fights back, he could win a majority.
