1. I know that we all have different strategies for how and when to engage/not engage with the transphobic bigots online, specifically on twitter (both the self-proclaimed 'feminist' ones and the rest). But if you commonly engage (tweeting back, quote RT-ing etc.)...a point
2. A lot of us who are on here, who are UK based, are facing specific attacks from these people - not just on Twitter, but in emails and phone calls to our places of work, in personal attacks online, and in personal attacks in the UK media.
3. Most of us are blocking as much as we can, and just trying to keep going with the work that needs to be done in the face of these attacks, but when someone who actively engages with transphobes throws our work into the fray - even in a supportive/celebratory way- things change
4. It can bring us to the attention of bigots who didn't have us on their radars before, it can up the amount of online abuse, and things can get really nasty. This is particularly relevant when US/Canadian people are getting involved with UK activists and UK transphobes.
5. It's our names that end up in the papers, our work that gets trashed, and our events that have to have extra security, or get picketed.
6. It's amazing that trans activists worldwide are sharing each others' work - so please don't think I'm not grateful that. I'd just be extra grateful if we could have each other's backs in terms of online and offline security and mental health. Thanks everyone for listening.
