There is a type of well-compensated, well-distributed media personality whose reverence for a mythical Marketplace of Ideas requires them to feign an ahistorical ignorance of the Power of Ideas. Their bad-faith arguments are like a choir of high school Libertarians.
One of their tells is the faux-folksy argot they use to frame tweets; phrases they’d never use in print. “Shucks.” “Gee willikers.” “Golly, Sarge.” Real man-of-the-people stuff.
To write this balderdash, they must pretend to have never heard of Hitler, because applying The Hitler Test to their tweets would make readers collapse in laughter: “Why are we afraid of hearing what Hitler has to say?” “I was taught in j-school to expose Hitler by quoting him.”
