Sheriff Sam Page? (first person quoted in story)? - CSPOA. Next sheriff quoted, Mike Lewis?- CSPOA. The person who organized the event? - Sheriff Thomas Hodgson? - CSPOA.

WaPo missed the kicker - this was a CSPOA event. So what? WELL...
Back in '016 I posted a little story, a placeholder really (to show I'd been on top of this) that documented an extraordinary unnoticed pattern in which the Trump campaign had courted CSPOA leadership. The County Sheriffs and Police Officers Association sounds so bland, right ?
[4thgenwar.wordpress.com/2016/10/26/a-s…] What if the Trump campaign, I asked, "had cultivated close ties to an anti-government organization with the apparent goal of overthrowing the federal government and whose leader has been likened, by a sitting U.S. Senator, to a domestic terrorist ?"
Flashback to '014: CSPOA head & co-founder Sheriff Richard Mack tells press that, during the tense standoff between federal agents & supporters of rancher Cliven Bundy, Mack & militia movement leaders considered putting the women up front, so if shooting broke out, their deaths..
...would have been broadcast nationally, on network TV. As I wrote in my story, "Such graphic footage showing women being mowed down by federal bullets would likely have set the militia movement ablaze. In one Texas county, according to a story in the Texas Observer...
..."one of CSPOA’s county sheriffs issued an alert to a local militia group to be ready to mobilize in support of the Bundy cause should the standoff become a shooting war." Here and there across the US, CSPOA's sheriffs have cultivated...
...working relationships with local anti-government militia groups. Only, now, those groups have mutated. They're now pro-Trump. This pattern is very patchy, and much stronger out West than in other regions. But the threat is real and deadly. There's an established pattern...
...of militia movement members trying to take the law into their own hands. Back in the mid 2000s, militia groups swarmed the US' Southern border, to stem illegal immigration... amidst allegations of human rights abuses and even murder.
But CSPOA offers militia members inclined to attempting to enforce their interpretation of law the umbrella of semi-legality, as members of a sheriffs' "posse". In at least one county, in Texas, this has already come to pass...
A May 2016 story from the Texas Observer shows a photo of Sheriff Pamela Elliott posing with members of a local militia group. The story concerned allegations that Elliott was harassing local democrats. Elliott isn't just any CSPOA member : she's featured on the cover...
of a book by CSPOA co-founder Richard Mack, "Are You a David?". The book's Amazon description reads, "A portion of this book is dedicated to giving history and a firsthand account of the recent BLM seige [sic] on the Bundy Ranch in Nevada." texasobserver.org/above-the-law-…
Former Sheriff Richard Mack's other CSPOA co-founder was Joe Arpaio, who served as a Trump campaign surrogate during the 2016 presidential campaign. Mack is currently running for US Congress. Meanwhile, the CSPOA continues its pattern of political organizing across the US...
Back in June, the CSPOA held a rally in Belchertown, MA - in Hampshire County, several MA counties over from CSPOA member Thomas Hodgson's stomping grounds, Bristol County. ONE of the speakers at the event was Larry Pratt, now founder emeritus of Gun Owners of America...
Pratt has a long history with the militia movement, including participating in the landmark 1993 Estes Park "Gathering of Christian Men" meeting that brought together neo-Nazis, KKK, and anti-Semitic groups and which established a template for the American militia movement...
As noted in a 2014 Rolling Stone story [ rollingstone.com/culture/cultur… ] is author of the 1990 book "Armed People Victorious" in which Pratt offers praise for the 1980s Guatemalan strongman Efrain Rios Montt, who was later convicted of genocide for the killing of civilians...
by military but also armed civilian groups accused of operating as death squads. Wrote Pratt, "The War on Drugs can be won the same way the guerilla insurgencies were pushed back in Guatemala… It is time that the United States return to reliance on an armed people."
Back to the MA rally in Belchertown - the featured speaker was Cliven Bundy. CSPOA co-founder Richard Mack spoke as well. Another was inveterate anti-LGBT rights campaigner Scott Lively. And while the overriding theme of the rally seemed to be distrust of the federal gov....
...the rally featured an odd touch, in light of that theme - a full size cardboard cutout of president Donald Trump. masslive.com/expo/news/erry…
A few other data points I should include - 1st, Richard Mack has advertised his CSPOA as "The Army to Set Our Nation Free" [ publicintegrity.org/2016/04/18/195… ]. But, the CSPOA is mainly commanding officers (sheriffs), so who would comprise the troops ? Hmm...
As it happens, back in early 2016 Donald Trump met one of the earlier advocates for uniting sheriffs and militia groups, for domestic counterinsurgency - William S. Lind, a man who might be considered the leading strategist of the US far right: 4thgenwar.wordpress.com/2016/07/03/tru…
As I describe in my story above, Lind is also author of a 2014 race war novel in which Christian, mainly white, militia groups topple the federal government, carry out ethnic cleansing, and force blacks back into slavery (forced sharecropping). Among his many hats, Lind is...
a leading theorist - perhaps the leading theorist - of "Fourth Generation Warfare". Lind also played a key role in popularizing the "cultural Marxism" conspiracy theory that's now all-but ubiquitous on the American right but which is also gaining international traction...
judging by his manifesto, "cultural Marxism" played a key role in motivating neo-Nazi terrorist Anders Behring Breivik. It seems to have inspired other acts of far-right terrorism, as I detail here: 4thgenwar.wordpress.com/2016/07/11/tru…
Another data point - a simple Google search shows that since his inauguration in early '017 Trump has repeatedly met with delegations of county sheriffs. google.com/search?q=Trump…
Then, we have Trump's infamous pardon of former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio - who was, along with Richard Mack, the original co-founder of the CSPOA. Trump has treated the renegade sheriffs well.
And, to loop all the way back to my first tweet - consider how improbable it is that most of the county sheriffs quoted by the cited Washington Post story are in the CSPOA ; there are over 3,000 county sheriffs in the US. Only a fraction, probably less than 10%, are CSPOA.
