Race: social construct based arbitrarily on ancestry and phenotype.
Ethnicity: social construct based on heritage and culture.
Nationality: Citizenship in country of birth or naturalization.
These are not the same.
They can overlap between & within each other.
Race: Black, White, Asian, Indigenous Americans etc.
Ethnicity: Latinx, Hispanic, West Indian, Black American, Igbo, Greek.
Nationality: American, French, Camboadian, Ghanaian, Greek.
For instance, someone can be both ethnically Nigerian and a citizen of Nigeria. Or they can be one or the other.
But nationalities and ethnicities ARE NOT races.
For instance, Afro-Latinx people identifying as black, White Latinx people identifying as white, wholly indigenous Latinx people & everything outside and in between.
Hispanic refers to language, people with Spanish speaking origins. Latinx refers to a geographical location distinguished by historical conquest by the Spanish/Portuguese
Now as I said, there's a ton of overlap. In fact most countries are both. But the distinction can be seen with 3 countries: Spain, Portugal, & Brazil.
Spain and Portugal, as countries located in Europe and not the Americas, would not be Latinx.
