This was a very cool and insightful thread about educated Indians, besides the insensitive usage of “caste.” Caste is a specific power vertical. It’s not transferable to another analogy. You don’t use the men/women analogy for anything other than gender. Don’t use caste either.
The arts/science divide in India is very true, and the people used as instances in this thread are mostly men, but we all understand how gender intersects with this vertical without either negating it or being a parallel. (That’s why it’s called an *intersection.*)
I’m not good at mathematical analogies, but each intersection adds another vertical to the plane, complicates it.

Caste is its own intersection. There are people of all castes in both the arts and the sciences. It’s not a parallel or an analogy of the arts/science vertical.
It’s possible to choose *not* to complicate a conversation with several verticals, especially when all you’re writing is a Twitter thread, like @vimoh has done with not specifically intersecting gender in his thread. All his examples are men. The point is still made.
The point can also be made with not at all drawing caste into the analogy. All the instances can be upper-caste men. Many academic studies are done w/ specific subsets of the population. Doesn’t make them invalid.

Caste intersects differently. Not a parallel. Is all I’m saying.
