One thing about “letter of the law not spirit” is that when you read of the Pharisees, they weren’t using the letter to like be more pious, they were using it to get out of stuff
It was always like “don’t lift a hand to help someone bc its the Sabbath”.
It was never “you must obey this hard teaching” it was always “use this easy teaching to get out of a hard teaching”
To be sure I’m not using this to point fingers at libCaths only. This is a universal problem, where we ignore a harder teaching for a lighter teaching
To be sure, I am often guilty of this Pharisaicalism. I will attempt to get out of the true calling of a teaching through the minimum
We should make it a practice to ask ourselves “am I just seeking to do the minimum to meet requirements?”
I mean sometimes all we can do is the minimum. That’s ok. I’m talking when we truly know we can do better.
