There's something that I keep seeing that leads me to believe we aren't going to pull off a blue wave at midterms, or win back the White House in 2020. GOP has a "win at any cost" mentality. Not just tactics, but funding.
I applaud every candidate on the Dem side who is running a campaign purely on the donations of their constituents. It's a relief to see that in some places candidates can raise enough to do this. Though wouldn't it be great if we had a system where money wasn't a factor at all?
What is bothering me is there are some amazing, progressive candidates out there in really tough races, in expensive markets, who need more money to compete, plain and simple. And when they take donations the far left doesn't like they are immediately disqualified.
It's not that I disagree with the ideology. But for fuck's sake these are not even playing fields. These are not normal times. We need every seat to flip dammit. People's lives are literally at stake. Democracy is LITERALLY AT STAKE.
If all it takes for you to stay home is that donors with money gave to a candidate then you're frankly worse than the GOP. Because you should know better, but like them you just don't care about other people.
So listen up white men on the left, because it's mostly you, and we see you. Come November if some of these viable candidates lose by small margins because you stayed home we will know it's you.
If you'd rather have GOP control for four, eight, twelve more years instead of vote for somebody who is 99% aligned with your values to prove a point, let me just tell you the only point you're proving is that you haven't paid any attention the last two years.
Get more seats at state and federal levels, retake the white house, we could probably pass finance reform if we demand it. But to demand it when everything is at stake. I guess when your life won't be ruined by GOP's policy who cares.
