How much longer are we going to give the @Alberta_UCP the benefit of the doubt?

I've been keeping track and *thirteen* separate candidates have made racist, homophobic, or anti-Science comments. This is a consistent trend.

Let me show you #ableg

First, some context. Every candidate has *passed* the UCP vetting process for candidates. This means that their background was looked into and they were approved before their comments came to light.

I started noticing this trend a few months ago so I decided to sit down and put together an excel sheet tracking UCP candidates. So far:

- 7 have made racist comments
- 2 have made homophobic comments
- 3 have posed with the soldiers of Odin
- 2 have made anti-science comments
Let's start by going through the candidates that made racist comments.

We will begin with Paul Frank - UCP Candidate for Calgary-North. In July, a recording was leaked showing Frank complaining about "all [the] Chinese" rigging the nomination process.

Frank wasn't condemned by the UCP and he is currently the President of Michelle Rempel's riding association.

Now let's move onto Cindy Ross.
Cindy Ross was UCP candidate for Calgary - Fish Creek. In 2015, she made racist comments in response to an Islamic center being constructed in Fort McMurray.

Below are screenshots of some of her comments. She was not condemned by the UCP and her nomination was allowed to stand.
UCP's Executive Director, Janice Harrington, responded to Ross's comments by saying,

"party members may have held certain views in the past but it doesn't necessarily mean they still hold them today."
Then there is Todd Beasley who was nomination candidate for Brooks - Medicine Hat.

He made the following comments about Muslims - calling them "fools who worship satan" among other things.

This was one of the few cases where the UCP disqualified a racist candidate.
Next we have Maureen Gow Zelmer who was nomination candidate for Calgary-Glenmore.

In March of 2017 she posted this image which is *still* up on her facebook page.

She later resigned from the race. I couldn't find comment from the UCP on this case.

Now we have Randy Kerr - he won his nomination and is now candidate for Calgary Beddington.

Prior to this, Kerr called climate change a 'hoax' and has openly shared material by the white nationalist site - Breitbart.

A unique mix of racism/climate change denial.
Here is Sandra Kim. Quick correction from my excel sheet: she lost her the race but was still a nominated candidate.

She ran for nomination in Maskwacis-Wetaskiwin.

In 2015, homophobic and racist comments made by her surfaced. They still allowed her to run but lost the race.
And how can you forget Philip Schuman? He was running in Calgary Glenmore when it was revealed that he approached a Neo-Nazi instagram page - a page that shared holocaust "memes" and Anti-Black comments.

He offered to fund the page and help them reach local conservatives.
He lost the race against Whitney Issik and said in a facebook post, "Today was not a loss for me. Today was a win for the UCP."

Schuman is still a conservative activist involved with the UCP despite supporting Neo-Nazis.
Now we have Todd Pawsey. A UCP nomination candidate for Drumheller – Stettler that made homophobic/sexist remarks.

He was one of the few candidates the UCP disqualified.
Here we have Laine Larson, a candidate for Edmonton-Rutherford. He made the claim that vaccines cause disease. I can't find if he continued his nomination and if he lost the race. However, his website is still up.

And here is Dale Johnson who was one of the other few candidates disqualified by the UCP for not disclosing a court case after, "after the party discovered he paid $5,584.60 to an employee he fired with whom he was in a romantic relationship."

And today it was surfaced that *three* UCP candidates took photos with the extremist group, the Soldiers of Odin.

Each one claimed that they were unaware of what the group stood for *despite* them wearing their patches and insignia in the photos.

Personally, it's outrageous that candidates running for our legislature are unaware of one of the provinces more infamous hate groups.

This is especially disturbing considering the UCP's history of candidates expressing racist views.
Ah I forgot to add Devin Dreeshen that campaigned for Donald Trump. He won a recent by-election and is currently an MLA for Innisfail - Sylvan Lake.

He campaigned for racist, Islamophobic, and anti-Science policies. Now he is in our legislature.

Keep in mind that all these cases involve current candidates. This is not to exclude others involved in the UCP.

Such as Leslie Gillam, a U of C student and executive on the University of Calgary Conservatives. He ran the neo-nazi page mentioned above.

It's disturbing that candidates like these keep appearing in the UCP nomination process. So far the number is at thirteen and this is *months* before the election.

I know for sure that I will keep track - I hope others do too.
I am seeing a number of people claim that this is trend not unique to the UCP.

That's bullshit.

The UCP has disqualified more candidates for racism/homophobia that are *named* Todd then the NDP, AB, and Liberals combined.
The scary thing is that these are just the candidates who were unable to hide their views. I imagine others were able to fly under the radar.

This is disturbing since they have a decent shot at holding real political power after next election. This should concern everyone.
What I know for sure is that the UCP will continue their routine of pretending to be clueless. However, we now know that this is a consistent trend.

Don't let them hide behind this excuse. You have the evidence now.
