Let’s talk about a recent @Reuters piece written by Andrew Torchia & @bozorgmehr claiming U.S. sanctions on #Iran are hurting “ordinary Iranians.”
reuters.com/article/us-ira…
2)
“…sanctions reimposed by U.S. President Donald Trump since August have played havoc…”

“It is one of many ways in which the sanctions are hurting ordinary Iranians while benefiting those with access to hard currency.”
3)
First of all, this claim/argument is an old lie.

A United Nations “special rapporteur” sunk to a similar low, claiming U.S. sanctions are violating human rights in #Iran.
4)
Even the European Commission has been debunked when resorting to such lies.

The EC even lied about the special rapporteur’s actual position.

See for yourself.
5)
"... the U.S. maintains broad authorizations and exceptions that allow for the sale of food, medicine, and medical devices by U.S. persons or from the United States to Iran."
treasury.gov/resource-cente…
6)
"U.S. sanctions laws provide similar allowances for sales of food, agricultural commodities, medicine, and medical devices to Iran by non-U.S. persons."
7)
"To further assist non-U.S. persons, including banks and medical suppliers, in fully understanding these allowances, this Guidance underscores that these sales to Iran do not trigger sanctions under U.S. law."
8)
Of course, Andrew Torchia & @bozorgmehr won’t tell you how #Iran's regime has destroyed the country's economy for 39 years & counting.
“Over 80% of the population lives under the poverty line”
dw.com/fa-ir/%DB%B8%D…
9)
Andrew Torchia & @bozorgmehr won't tell you that #Iran spends billions in #Syria.
defenddemocracy.org/media-hit/davi… … …
10)
They won't tell you that #Iran intends to spend even more on reconstructing #Syria, not providing for ordinary Iranians back home.
11)
They won’t tell you how even recently #Iran will be sending “200 tons of medicine & medical supplies will be sent to religious sites" in Iraq.
tasnimnews.com/fa/news/1397/0…
12)
They won't tell you that #Iran spends hundreds of millions supporting the terrorist Lebanese Hezbollah.
thenational.ae/world/the-amer…
13)
They won't tell you that #Iran spends hundreds of millions - if not billions - fueling the Houthis' destruction campaign in #Yemen.
reuters.com/article/us-yem…
14)
This explains many things vividly about #Iran's regime wasting billions abroad & the people suffering...
15)
Andrew Torchia & @bozorgmehr won't tell you that #Iran spends billions on weapons programs & terrorism, while the Iranian people are suffering & chanting:
"Not Gaza, Not Lebanon"
"Forget Syria, think about us"
foxnews.com/world/2018/01/…
16)
Back to the @Reuters piece.
“In supermarkets in Najaf in neighboring Iraq, meanwhile, supplies of Iranian tomato paste are plentiful.”
This is aimed at saying #Iran’s IRGC will benefit from U.S. sanctions, an argument also raised by @yarbatman.
foreignpolicy.com/2018/10/04/ira…
17)
And here’s @yarbatman retweeting @bozorgmehr.

See the connection?

Reminds me of Ben Rhodes’ famous “echo chamber.”
18)
Let’s hear something from IRGC deputy Hossein Salami:

“Many enemies have established a coalition to weaken the state! All world powers, with all their might, are united to weaken our security.”
19)
I don’t know about you, but to me, this sounds like #Iran’s IRGC is extremely concerned about the status quo… and we’re still 3-4 weeks away from the next round of U.S. sanctions on Iran.
20)
Another line from the @Reuters piece:

“The International Monetary Fund predicted this week that the economy would shrink 1.5 percent this year and 3.6 percent in 2019, before recovering slowly.”
21)
Write this down somewhere.

It will be useful to remind the IMF & @Reuters when they are proven wrong.
22)
“The IMF also forecast the average inflation rate would jump to a peak above 34 percent next year, briefly returning to its level in 2013.”

Look at @steve_hanke for #Iran’s true inflation rate:
23)
“... if European nations succeeded in creating a special payments system permitting trade with Iran to continue, and if Tehran cracked down on endemic corruption, the economy might start recovering gradually a year from now.”

Wishful thinking.
24)
Europe’s “Special Payment Vehicle” remains largely symbolic.

25)
And rest assured fighting corruption is not in the nature of #Iran’s regime.
Not at all.

The state media of this corrupt regime reports:
"$9 billion of government currency has going missing..."
26)
Now, I have my own opinion about people like @bozorgmehr & @yarbatman.

Watch the video.
27)
As always, the conclusion is yours to make.

Thanks for reading!

I always welcome constructive feedback.

Best!
