I'm not wild about the Crash Course on eugenics and Galton video because the idea that it wasn't a bad science practice given its historical context is 1. wrong and 2. ignores the multitudes of people who wrote critiques of it DURING THAT TIME.
One of the early critiques of social darwinism, a philosophy that greatly influenced pro-eugenics scientists, was from fucking Marx okay, we didn't just suddenly wake up one day and say "ah, now we know better and eugenics is bad." We knew it was bad. There were critics back then
There's this presumption of innocence often extended to people in history, like they just didn't know better. But if we look, we will see there were usually people in that same time period DIRECTLY TELLING THEM THE THINGS THEY WOULD NEED TO KNOW BETTER
