Smith got his start in the entertainment industry by working for a production company that made copies of pornographic films (including the film "Deep Throat"). The company closed after a police raid. Now Smith heads Sinclair Broadcasting Group.
Sinclair not only exploited loopholes to buy up television stations (it now owns over 190 of them), it exploited African-Americans by making them "owners" of TV stations that were actually controlled by Sinclair
A former general assignment reporter on Sinclair's mandate over local TV stations: "I’m a Republican, and I was still appalled by what I saw at Sinclair."
