I do not support the military, but banning trans people from military service is a part of sending a signal that trans people are not full citizens, as fitness for military service has always been used in this country.
This has become especially true in a post World War world. Following WWI, military measurement became very commonplace in the US, and military metaphor as well such as in the case of illness, politics, and more.
Anyway. I'm anti-military and also anti-trans-military-ban and those things are not mutually exclusive.
For some examples of how military readiness has influenced our ideas of citizenship, I would direct your attention to the Presidential Fitness Test which began as Kennedy was afraid that modernity was making boys too soft and weak to fight off commies or whatever.
You should also read into Americanization programs which were linked with this, trying to shape immigrant children and the children of immigrants into "proper" citizens
Military-ready acceptableness is a huge part of deciding who is a "true" citizen. Just look at the way we treat disabled people who can't serve. WE DID A WHOLE MOVIE ABOUT GIVING THEM SUPER SOLDIER SERUM SO THEY COULD EMBODY AMERICAN VALUES. (hi cap)
And an integrated military? Was inarguably part of the civil rights movement.
Think about the arguments for women in combat roles.
All of these things are deeply linked to who gets to be considered a full citizen
