Thread:
To debunk a false narrative of #Balochistan’s accession to #Pakistan being spread for political goals.

To provide a history lesson to SM opinion makers & anchors as @MalickViews who must challenge such gross misrepresentations of historical facts on national media.

1/15
There was no upper/lower house representing entire #Balochistan at independence in 1947.

What @sakhtarmengal (intentionally/unintentionally) refers to as ‘Aiwane Bala & Aiwane Ziren’ were appointed (unelected) houses of State Of Kalat consisting of only 26% of Balochistan

2/15
#Balochistan’s area at the time of partition in 1947 consisted of

Gwadar ruled by Oman &
5 units of Balochistan Agency:

1-British Chief Commissioner’s Balochistan
2-Princely State Of Kharan
3-Princely State Of Lasbela
4-Princely State Of Makran
5-Princely State Of Kalat

3/15
Chief Commissioner’s #Balochistan overwhelmingly voted for accession to #Pakistan in ‘Shahi Jirga’ at Quetta after a spirited campaign by Qazi M Essa head of Balochistan Provincial Muslim League.

He not only rallied people in Balochistan but also in KP to vote for Pakistan
4/15
Princely State Of Kharan
was ruled by Mir Habibullah Khan Nowsherwani who favored accession to #Pakistan so highly that he wrote to #QaideAzam lamenting delays in Kharan’s merger with Pakistan & proclaimed “people of Kharan are independent from Kalat & will die for Pakistan”
5/15
Princely State Of Lasbela
was ruled by Jam Ghulam Qadir grandfather of current CM #Balochistan @jam_kamal

He also repeatedly wrote to #QaideAzam regarding pressure politics of Khan Of Kalat after British rule ended & demanded a quick accession of #Lasbela to #Pakistan

6/15
Princely State Of Makran
was ruled by Nawab Bai Khan Gichki who insisted #QaideAzam to accept an immediate accession of Makran to #Pakistan
& upon delays, even grew impatient to threaten that:
If #Pakistan doesn’t accept Makran’s accession soon, then we may approach others
7/15
Princely State Of Kalat mere 26% of today’s province of #Balochistan
was ruled by Mir Ahmad Yar Khan who was close to #QaideAzam his legal advisor
But Kalat had an unelected parliament dominated by pro Congress & anti Muslim League politicians of Kalat State National Party
8/15
Khan Of Kalat knew that independence wasn’t an option at partition.
All princely states had to choose between #Pakistan or #India.
Accession to #India wasn’t feasible due to geographical distance.
He negotiated with QaideAzam to get maximum influence as part of #Pakistan.
9/15
The politicians of Kalat State National Party such as Malik Saeed Dehwar, Gul Khan Naseer, Ataullah Mengal, Ghous Buksh Bizenjo were allied with the Indian Congress Party voted for #Independence which Khane Kalat tried to use to gain maximum autonomy from #QaideAzam
10/15
Delaying tactics by Khan Of Kalat delayed accession to February 1948
6 months after independence.

This disappointed #QaideAzam in Ahmed Yar Khan & he accepted pending accession requests from Kharan Lasbela & Makran

Isolating Kalat as 26% of landlocked area in #Balochistan
11/15
On top of Kalat’s isolation, on
27th March 1948 ‘All Indian Radio’ broadcast announced:

‘Kalat had requested accession to India, which Nehru has rejected.’

This humiliated Ahmed Yar Khan who denied having made such a request & hurriedly announced accession to Pakistan.

12/15
Another misrepresentation of historical facts by @sakhtarmengal on @MalickViews is that Ahmad Yar Khan signed Kalat’s accession to #Pakistan under Pak Army’s gun point!

He was arrested not in 1948 but in 1958 after his public opposition to ‘One Unit’ by Ayub Khan’s govt

13/15
Not only was Ahmed Yar Khan not arrested in 1948 but was honored with titles & appointed as
Khan e Azam of Council of Rulers of a newly created division of #Balochistan called:

#Balochistan States Union ‘BSU’
comprised of the States of
Kharan, Makran, Lasbela & Kalat

14/15
Nationalist leaders of Kalat such as Ghous Bux Bizenjo, Gul Khan Naseer & Ahmed Yar Khan himself have written books about #Balochistan’s accession being signed after Indian public rejection on 27 March 1948.

#PakArmy surely didn’t coordinate with India to force accession.
