Say you want to go canvassing but don't know how to link up with a campaign (and definitely DO link up with a campaign or legit organization, we have 10 days left). Allow me to lay it out . . .
First, do some quick googling. Can you find your local county party ("[x] county Democratic Party") on the web? Facebook? Twitter?
If you do, great! But do NOT just fill out the "volunteer now" form and wait for a phone call. Yes, the form feeds into the county party's database (NGPVan), but that may not be checked regularly by an all-volunteer organization. Call the phone number, message the social media.
That might not even lead to anything- two years ago my county party was in a state of disarray. So that means turn to CAMPAIGNS and NON-PARTY organizations.
What's going on in your congressional district? In ones close by? Check out @538politics House forecast, anything from "likely R" to "likely D" will have an active campaign that needs you.…
If you're not sure which district you are, Google "who represents me?" or look at your sample ballot.

(True story- I had no idea who the incumbent GOP Congressman was in the run-up to the 2016 election. Probably because Richard Hudson NEVER does public events.)
Campaigns are much more likely to get back to you if you message them on social or even if you fill out the "volunteer" form. Many, many campaigns are also using @LetsMobilizeUS to list volunteer opportunities.
If, for whatever reason, you're striking out on campaigns, reach out to a local @IndivisibleTeam group.
Also, if you're in a safe district and able to travel, check out @swingleft @SarahTaber_bww and I first got to know Fayetteville as out-of-town political volunteers.
#VoteSaveAmerica also has a great volunteer portal, including a general overview of what's going on in your state. (And definitely set aside some time for next weekend, which is #TheLastWeekend)
Why did I start with your local party org instead of the well-financed national portals? Because county party orgs are the bricks with which we build democracy. If you can, help them (and subscribe to a print version of your local daily/weekly newspaper).
Finally, if you want to help my county party, you can donate at or, if you're local (or able to visit), message me!
