Just in case anyone was under the impression that people promoting anti-semitic propaganda about George Soros were just crazies on the Internet, here's a sitting Senator doing it. Unconscionable.
I should say "crazies on the Internet" and @realdonaldtrump, who keeps demonstrating that however despicable, repulsive, and stupid you thought he was before, he's actually worse. And he keeps lowering the bar because no one is stopping him.
It's almost as if he's boundary testing. Now that he's gotten away with promoting anti-semitic memes about George Soros (btw, you own this, @ivankatrump and @jaredkushner--this is part of your legacy, too), what else can he get away with?
If the pizzagate memes were happening now and not months ago, I think he'd be alluding to them, if not outright promoting them. He doesn't care if people get killed. In fact, I think he has the kind of bloodlust only a coward with an inferiority complex can.
He is a small insecure man who's accomplished nothing legitimately. Everything he's ever had of value has either been handed to him, or he's cheated and lied to get it. He knows that no one with a brain respects him and it makes him angry.
So this is his revenge: being able to manipulate reality for a portion of the population that also consists of angry people with an inferiority complex and weaponizing them as a cudgel against the people who quite rightly don't respect him.
And he's a glutton for power, so when the shock value of whatever horrible thing he just did wears off, he'll try to turn it up a notch. Personally, I don't see how this doesn't inevitably result in him personally ordering people to be killed.
He's already made gestures in that direction. And when he says he could stand in the middle of fifth avenue and shoot someone and people would still vote for him, I get the feeling that he'd love nothing more than to try it and see if it flies.
The only saving grace here is that he's such a coward about so many things that even a little direct confrontation mitigates it. But very few people are in a position to directly confront him and he surrounds himself with yes men and family members who are as nihilistic as he is.
And GOP controlled Congress isn't doing anything, because they're either repulsive nihilists themselves (starting with McConnell and Ryan), or they're cowards, too.
And part of the problem here, too, is that the electorate has let GOP lawmakers get away with making performative expressions of "disappointment" at Trump's rhetoric while in now way holding him accountable in any way that's actually meaningful.
Congress is equipped to hold the Executive Branch accountable, but you wouldn't know it from the last two years. Public statements are not enough, and at this point it should be clear that they're not acts of bravery; they're substitutes for action.
