This morning, I woke with a fire in my belly, aching with the loss of our elders. Furious with the knowledge that our data has been weaponized, our deepest fears and biases have been harvested, sorted, reseeded by hostile nation states who conspire to harm fellow Americans. 1/
They target us. They create propaganda and memes to coerce us to dehumanize one another. They fund the platforms that KNOW but are silent. They run the PR firms and lobbyists that NORMALIZE and PROMOTE micro-targeted campaigns with OUR DATA. They obfuscate their role. 2/
The world is complex, but journalists must not intentionally obscure what they know. So, as I scanned the headlines of the @nytimes this morning, where did I land? A PR fluff piece for none other than Brad PARSCALE.
I knew, just KNEW who had to have written it.

It's the same ACCESS journo who published a story on 11/6/16 with a MAJOR omission (re PAUL-conspiring-with-a-hostile-nation-state-Manafort), which she then tweeted on the DAY AFTER the election.

Many of us have threaded on her 2016 article nytimes.com/2016/11/07/us/… highlighting how Maggie Haberman (whose mother happens to work for Trump and Kushners' PR firm) obscures Parscale and Manafort's methods of using our stolen and weaponized data. 5/
So I open this new piece on Brad Parscale nytimes.com/2018/10/28/us/… knowing Maggie must have written it.
I said to myself "she won't mention Cambridge Analytica," the info warfare company (and target of the Mueller investigation) in business with Parscale.
And nope, not once.

She had multiple opportunities to note CA's ties to Parscale's biz:
"He bristles at being labeled merely a web designer and notes that his background is in internet marketing, and that the digital strategy he oversaw has been credited by Republicans with helping Mr. Trump win."7/
She even discusses Brad Parscale's Parscale Strategy and Giles Parscale, which "took in more than $90 million from the campaign, the bulk of which went to online advertising — a sum that enraged Mr. Trump, at least before he won."

Cambridge Analytica, tho?

Like her 2016 article (ss #2), where she said BP's analysis was more "atmospheric than scientific," she now writes,
"he tends to think in headline-making concepts, but sometimes Mr. Parscale has failed to consider the potential problems of an unconventional approach."

Even in her closing paragraph, Maggie plays Brad Parscale down. Just a "garrulous but nervous" digital marketer and former web designer, who is kinda sorta low-key fumbling around...
