I've open sourced the tool behind @3dmmSFX, which generates mp4 files from sound files using imagemagick+ffmpeg, so you can easily post them to twitter:…
This is exceptionally untested code (it works from 3dmmsfx and I hacked it to work with one other demo file ones) so feel free to contribute patches or raise issues if it isn't working in some way.
Also check out NY Public Radio's audiogram, which is the same sort of idea but not twitter-specific and much more robust and complex:…
I didn't know about audiogram when I built my tool, and I kept using it later because it's way easier for the very simple uses I needed it for.
Basically the reason both of these tools work is that movies are a first-class citizen of the web, whereas soundfiles are not. So if you need to post a WAV or MP3 somewhere, the easiest way is usually to make it a video and upload that instead.
And thanks to my roommate @gewt who needed to use this so it finally motivated me to actually getting it into some slightly-usable state and shoving it onto github
and just cause it feels like I should mention it on twitter:
the tool is written in python, and requires Pillow (installable with pip) and imagemagick (use a binary distrib for windows or apt-get it)
