/ Here's a thread for the Thursday before Election Day - just 5 days to go. Today, I'll stop by @BradRiter's @TrendingBuffalo to record a somewhat traditional Election-eve podcast.
/ A lot can happen in 5 days, but [shrug emoji] we go with what we have. Here's what we have right now in #WNY and #Buffalo.
/ #NY27: no-brainer. The INcumbent is INdicted, IN hiding, INcorrigible, INtolerable, and IN custody. A vote for @Nate_McMurray is a vote for honor, responsive representation, & rule of law. Nate works hard, & will do the district proud; even when you may disagree. He'll listen.
/ Likewise, #A147 is easy. David DiPietro is a do-nothing bully. He's what happens when you send a WBEN caller to "represent" you. @LukeforNY is the only reasonable choice, and he'll have the district's back.
/ In #A144, Mike Norris is like vapor - I'm a constituent and I have no clue what he sounds like, looks like. No idea what, if anything, he has or hasn't done. So, vote for Joe DiPasquale. dipasqualefornewyork.com
/ State Senate: #SD60 Chris Jacobs is waiting for the promotion he considers an entitlement. Vote @carima4senate. #SD61 Ranzenhofer has been sleepy and under the radar for over 20 years. He's vested. Kick him out and vote for Joan Seamans, seamans4senate.com
/ County Clerk: Mickey Kearns sold his soul and embraced the worst of Trumpism to get elected. Fuck him and the Paladino horse he rode in on. Vote instead for @Marinucci4Clerk: she has ideas, she is a smart attorney, and she'd be the only female elected to exec county position
/ NYAG choice is framed as one between investigating Trump & investigating Albany. I'd like an AG who will do both. Due to lack of checks/balance in DC, NYAG has been picking up a lot of slack. I don't GAF whether Tish James knows what a garbage plate is. Vote for @TishJames
/ Governor: this is tough for me because @NYGovCuomo has been so disappointing viz. tackling Albany corruption - the single most important issue in the state. But Molinaro is uninspiring, and spouts talking points about low taxes, etc. Everyone says that, but Cuomo does it.
/ If you want lower taxes, you have to hold Albany's feet to the fire. Make them not shunt mandates to counties. Albany is a complete disaster, but in this day and age I'm not voting Republican not for anyone not for anything.
/ Speaking of which, someday Trump and Trumpism will be relegated to the trash dump of history, like Robert E. Lee and Strom Thurmond. I will remember who supported him. I will remember your deep-throated "MAGA" ism and I will not let you forget it.
/ Anyhow, a reluctant vote for Andrew Cuomo with a crossed finger that he'll get the fucking message is better than voting for the Libertarian because [eye roll] or Molinaro, who grandstands in front of the Tesla plant, which has a full fucking parking lot.
/ Other races: @MonicaPWallace is brilliant and needs to return to Albany. It goes without saying that @RepBrianHiggins deserves re-election for his tireless pro-WNY advocacy. But let's turn our attention to #A146 the @RaymondWWalter race.
/ I like @RaymondWWalter and think he is smart & willing to cross the aisle. But I am very disappointed in his negative attacks on Democrat @McMahonforNYS. Especially as it relates to single-payer health care.
/ Republican attacks on single-payer simply aren't working. Everyone knows that the GOP spent 10 years attacking Obamacare as socialism, and when push came to shove they had nothing with which to replace it. It was like a slow-motion Brexit disaster.
/ Single payer can take many forms, and voters count health care as their primary concern. Ray can certainly take his record in the Assembly and run on it without attacking McMahon as some sort of dirty liberal communist. It is disappointing at a gut level.
/ So, this cycle vote for @McMahonforNYS because while single-payer may not be perfect, it's a whole shitload better than the status quo, and miles better than the pre-Obamacare fiasco.
/ Let's get people Medicare for all in NYS - whether it's administered by the public sector or a single health insurer through an RFP. Take it out of my paycheck and end the massive deductibles and hassles and competing plans and the bureaucratic nightmare.
/ Because freedom and liberty from medical bankruptcy, from an inability to pay for care that middle-class families need, for nursing care for the elderly - that's freedom, too.
/ So, that's my election thread #WNY friends. Share it far and wide. Go to the polls and vote for your future. Send a message to the far-right scaremongers that you're not afraid. The time of the red hat will be fleeting.
