Hard left & paedophilia Pt II.
Peace News, a long-running radical left, pacifist publication.
'The paper’s pages have often been ahead of the times... And in the case of non-hysterical discussion of paedophilia, most of the world still has to catch up.'…
Unfortunately, they don't provide the original report from Jun 75 by Roger Moody (a co-editor). But they do provide snippets of the replies to it.
'There is no doubt in my mind that the age of consent for all forms of sexual activity should be reduced to 13 or 14'
The co-editor Roger Moody was a social/youth worker & peace activist (Vietnam Solidarity Campaign) from Islington N. An early mention is from Times 27 May 1968 p.3 where he was organising children in Islington to help clear derelict sites to make them into temporary playgrounds.
As well as his 'peace work' in Vietnam (& Nigeria), Moody visited many, many other developing countries over the years. Here (Times 31 Mar 1976 p.14 @TimesDiary) arranging a trip to Namibia, having been on previous ventures to Bangladesh & Cambodia.
Here's a letter he wrote to Gay Left, Issue 2, Spring 1976.
'Paedophiles, as you briefly mention, have begun to organise... consist of wagon-hitching to the mainstream gay movement - a strategy which may embarrass paedophiles as much as it has already inconvenienced Peter Hain'.
'It may well be that what inspires widespread feeling against child & adolescent lovers is not so much sexism as ageism... Certainly we cannot hope for liberation without actively supporting children's rights, both sexual and political.'
'a very careful analysis of the role we paedophiles play in bulwarking repression (if all boy lovers in approved schools & private boarding schools were to strike, how many would be forced to close?)'
Repeat: "we paedophiles"
Moody wanted 'a building of solidarity in struggle' amongst paedophiles. As well as a 'revolutionary perspective on social change & minority sexual rights (refusing to work for a mere lowering of the age of consent).
In 1979 Moody wrote a book 'Indecent Assault'.
On how he 'was arraigned on 4 charges of indecent assault & attempted buggery with a 10 year old boy friend. This book traces the course of his case, from the initial police raid to a dramatic acquittal'.…
'Since leaving school he has worked for children's rights as one of the pioneers of libertarian ("adventure") playgrounds. He has also lived & worked as a wayfarer, labourer, community organiser, student activist & freelance film-maker' [in developing countries and Islington].
Guardian 1 Aug 1983 p.10
A letter by Moody.
'two eight year old girls were subjected to the appalling ordeal of police questioning... And for what? Apparently to determine the relative position of an adult's thumbs for the space of a few seconds underwater in a public baths.'
Guardian 16 Oct 1985 p.13
Another letter.
'the ability of children to reject sexual abuse is strengthened, not weakened by empowering them to develop their own relationships outside the nuclear family. The wisdom of saying "no" is predicted on the freedom to say also "yes".'
In 1986 Moody wrote a chapter for the book: 'The Betrayal of Youth: Radical Perspectives on Childhood Sexuality, Intergenerational Sex, and Social Oppression of Children and Young People' edited by Warren Middleton.
Sickeningly the editor, Warren Middleton (aka John Parrott, more on him later), in the acknowledgements said he 'would like to thank children & young people themselves, for it was they who inspired the present study'
The contents.
Moody's essay was entitled 'Ends and Means: How to Make Paedophilia Acceptable...?' Other authors included Peter Tatchell on 'Questioning Ages of Majority and Ages of Consent'
Mr Tatchell has since disassociated himself from the publication, and clarified his position, saying he was tricked and believed that Ken Livingstone was also going to write for it.…
