1. Yesterday I mentioned traveling/backpacking as a part of learning & building confidence. A friend said that was expensive for students.

A quick thread on how to spend less than 200K for a holiday in Europe.

My own experience, I did it in my early 30s.

2. First, start saving to travel today, try and put aside between 10K to 20K a month.

Stop trying to buy a car in your 20s, it's a liability, invest in leaning.

15K per month X 12 = 180K

You have enough money by Nov 2019 to spend a holiday in Paris, Barcelona or Amsterdam.
3. Book your flights early. You can get a return ticket for around 70K.

Find a friendly travel agent who will accept installments or book online. Pay kidogo extra for cancellation/refund options.

Here is Nairobi to Paris.
4. Book hostels, most offer bed & breakfast but you make your own breakfast, lunch etc, they also have fridges to store your groceries with labels.

This can be as cheap as total €25 (2500) a day. You can get a private room or share 4 beds. I shared.

They are fairly clean.
5. Move around. I traveled from Amsterdam to Paris to Florence (Italy), to Barcelona. Spending 3+ days in each location. You don't need 4 locations, 2 is perfect.

If you take a bus between Paris and Amsterdam it's $18 (1800).
6. How to enjoy your stay, once you arrive to a different country, buy a local SIM & ask for tourist pack for data bundles (always carry extra phone).

Buy a tourist bus ticket, buy for 3+ days and get a map.

You can hop on and off all day so seeing.
7. Leave your biases at home, be open to learning and asking questions, make friends especially if you're sharing Dorms, people come and go and you meet amazing adventurous humans.

Plan dinners and drinks together if you choose etc.

Take lots of pictures 😊.
8. That's all for now. Go ahead and travel while you're young. the knowledge you gain will change your life.

A few years later, I drove with a friend for 10 days, 10 cities/town around America from San Francisco... That's a thread for another day. 😊
