Outside the Broward County elections office today, CNN's Jessica Dean was beginning a live report on the Florida recount when Republican protesters lunged and started to shout her down wth chants of "fake news."

Then this man — in a Bikers for Trump shirt — stepped in.
Rick Sarmiento, a pro-Trump Republican from Mt. Dora, told his fellow protesters, "Let's be respectful." He asked them to pipe down, then physically blocked them from getting in the way.
The wind picked up, so he also held CNN's tent in place while the camera rolled. Dean wrapped up her segment and said, "Thank you for holding the tent, and thank you for your help."
"Even though I'm a Republican and support Trump, and even though CNN sucks, because it's 90% anti-Trump, this is about respect and civility," Sarmiento said afterward. "We need to learn that in America, regardless of our differences. We're teaching hate and need to teach love."
Obviously, Trump teaches hate all the time, so this position feels pretty ironic from a hardcore Trump backer. But still, it was one, tiny exchange of kindness during the hellfire that is the Florida midterm recount.
