So I feel like I would like to move to Detroit next spring/summer (winter feels like a less than ideal time to move) and I've been looking at apartments for rent in the city. So much more affordable than Oregon! So much cool shit happening!
We've been trying to decide how we get there. So we don't have really furniture to bring because our bed is falling apart. But y'know computers, books, clothes, kitchen stuff, blah blah blah. We also have two cats.
So one idea is buy a used car, we probably don't need more than a hatchback, load the cats and stuff in it, and drive across the country. Another idea is ship our paltry belongings and take a plane with the cats.
On the one hand, we could do a fun cross country trip, meet some friends between here and Michigan. But that's a long time for the cats to be in a car. On the other hand, plane? But I've heard of people's pets dying on planes?? Idk idk I love my cats
See we really don't have MUCH to move other than the cats and our computers and my books. I feel like we wouldn't need much more space than like an SUV or hatchback for all of it- we don't really need a truck or trailer
I definitely would want my babies in the cabin with us if we go by plane. That might be more expensive (we would sell the car we buy once in Michigan to offset some of the cost if we go by car) but being done with the travel after one day would be nice
It's just I've been looking at Eugene and like... It's more expensive there? Even in outlying towns like Springfield. I grew up in Oregon. Even in rural places like this the rent is getting too high for us
It's weird I'm getting priced out of my home state but maybe that's for the best? For years now I've been looking at Detroit, thinking of moving there. Maybe it's time.
