Look you know I hate* to generalise, but if farmers looked at data of their operations and environment as rarely as software engineers did, the world would be in famine

* my other middle name is hyperobole

Does your team know average new bugs it introduces for new features of various sizes

Do you do benchmarking; this doesn’t have to be fancy. Just tweak integration tests you already have

Can you answer sizing questions? If you introduced memory leaks... How would you know?
Which parts of your codebase have the most churn? Or highest bug density? Or is it your test suites that need investment: are the LOC earning their keep - are investments balanced?

Have you surveyed your team on what they spend time on? What’s the most expensive thing to debug?
Farmers know how much, when, where, equipment & settings they planted last year. Records of soil strategies/experiments. Rainfall/weather. Probs have more spreadsheets than you do. At least in .au you can’t survive farming without data. But software is like pre-industrial farming
But even that’s unfair to pre-industrial farmers. They kept a lot more journals notes and logs, pondering what they were doing far more scientifically than the average scrum-powered retrospective
