The question of whether or not Corbyn personally is an antisemite is utterly irrelevant. He has repeatedly shared platforms with, championed & befriended antisemites. He has downplayed the issue while delivering mealy mouthed statements demonstrating how little he gets it. 1/
He’s allowed mobs of raging antisemites to speak in his name. He’s personally stood by while Jewish MPs are racially abused in front of him. I couldn’t give the tiniest shit what his personal feelings are. He could be dancing a little hora inside, the results are the same. 2/
If his best defence is “I’ve never said anything you can 100% pin me down on” or “I’m not an antisemite I just hang out with them on a regular basis & help provide platforms for their antisemitic views”, that’s not much of a defence, is it? 3/
The idea that this is somehow acceptable as long as he’s not “actively antisemitic” (and, by the way, I can name several times he has been), as long as he’s just a passive, hapless bystander, is ludicrous. He’s looking to lead the country, for fuck’s sake. 4/
It’s a totally disingenuous distraction, the saintly act of giving Corbyn the benefit of the doubt while quibbling over the semantics of it. He has demonstrated repeatedly that he will not engage with the Jewish community (other than his handpicked ‘good Jews’) to fix this. 5/
It does seem to be a line that’s loved by racists the world over, though, as it makes the accuser feel they’ve been unreasonable. “How dare you say I AM racist, I’ve just said and done loads of racist things, but you can’t say I AM one, that’s libellous.” 6/
If you’re looking for a definitive smoking gun that Corbyn is antisemitic, you won’t find one. If you take each incident in isolation & analyse it independently, you can maybe explain them away. If you look, within context, at a 30-year pattern of behaviour, it’s very clear. 7/
He didn’t look properly at the mural. He just meant a specific group of “Zionists” when he implied they weren’t really English. He baselessly accused Israel of a false flag terror operation, not all Jews. He didn’t know who he was laying a wreath for... 8/
He was just trying to broker peace when he called Hamas friends. He did adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism in full, he just wanted to protect free speech about Israel. He didn’t hear all the racist remarks made directly in front of him. 9/
That’s not even the half of it. Excuse after excuse after excuse. If it was one isolated incident, maybe he could be given the benefit of the doubt. But nobody can credibly believe he has not demonstrated a long & consistent tolerance of & participation in antsemitism. 10/
