Let me ‘splain you a thing about sexual assault on college campuses.
That’s ALL women.
But on college campuses, women are FOUR times more likely to experience some kind of sexual assault.
That’s 2/3rds. 67%, if you round up.
And more than 90% will refuse to report it.
Meaning that this rule does not apply to private schools.
The ACLU and Dept of Education released separate letters saying the same thing:
Sexual assault interferes with students’ right to a discrimination-free education.
Sexual violence wasn’t just a crime.
It could also be a violation of women’s rights.
DeVos is set to release (but hasn’t yet) a sweeping overhaul of these advancements.
- making schools less liable for events on their grounds
- allowing schools to set a higher standard in evaluating claims
- narrowing the definition of sexual assault
- giving new rights to the accused
- like the ability to cross-examine their accusers
Betsy DeVos just made it a whole lot easier for those men to get away with it.
It’s already pretty fucking easy.
But she’ll let them walk, without liability to anyone.
Statistically, only 3% of sexual assaults are falsely accused. And yet we are making such strides to protect those 3% and every predator in between.
Obama directed “preponderance of the evidence,” meaning more likely than not.
DeVos will direct “clear and convincing,” which is a higher standard, making cases more difficult to win in court.
Betsy DeVos has disregarded statistics, anecdotes, and men admitting it.
Betsy DeVos may make college campuses more dangerous.
Betsy DeVos is a human trash pile.
