Sadly, we are witnessing the effects of brown envelopes on the media in Nigeria. Whatever anybody is paying these people to keep quiet is blood money. It took Reuters that is 6000km away to tell us what our own media people are hiding from us. I recall an incident between BBC
and a Governor friend of mine. We just finished having dinner when the crew from the BBC were ushered into his presence for the interview. All done, my friend gave the sign to his Press Secretary who takes a big “Brownie” filled with 2m Naira to them. Press Secretary returns with
Brownie, the BBC guys flatly rejected it. The report that later came out was an accurate account of what transpired. Juxtapose this with my personal experience with some journalists who covered a CTA event and flatly refused to report it unless we parted with 10k per person.
How then will these ones report any incident if serious cash has been paid for a #NigerianMediaBlackout of the Boko Haram ascendancy in the #LakeChad crises? This was the same mentality that gave the terrorist Group the upper hand in 2015. We learnt nothing.
