As Justin Trudeau scrambles to address the fallout from General Motors' decision to close its Oshawa plant and lay off thousands of auto workers, here's a story from three years ago he should reflect back on. (1/n): cbc.ca/news/politics/…
The context of the story is Justin Trudeau trying to convince GM to keep the Oshawa plant open. The two had a meeting in Davos at the World Economic Forum and CBC reports the Liberals’ strategy was to use Trudeau's “political celebrity" to entice GM to say. (2/n)
Forget competitive taxation rates and labour standards. Forget stable and predictable regulatory regimes. Forget anything of actual economic substance. The Liberals thought Trudeau's "celebrity" would convince GM to keep investing, in spite of his failed policies. (3/n)
This strategy has failed. Companies like GM are fleeing Canada, and it's not because they don't like the Prime Minister. It's because he has created a climate where job-creators are scrambling to get their money out instead of rushing to get it in. (4/4)

Fact: The pressure Justin Trudeau exerted on Jody Wilson-Raybould was only about protecting Liberal seats in Parliament. The only job he was trying to save was his own. 1/n

Fact: Ridiculous. Nothing forced him to replace the Treasury Board President and Attorney General. She was fired because she wouldn’t stop SNC’s criminal trial, like he wanted. 2/n

Fait : La pression exercée par Justin Trudeau sur JWR était seulement pour protéger des sièges libéraux au Parlement. L’emploi qu’il tentait de sauver était le sien. 1/n
Excuse no 2 : « Si Scott Brison n’avait pas démissionné, JWR serait toujours procureure générale. »

Fait : Ridicule. Rien n’a forcé à remplacer le prés. du Conseil du Trésor et la Proc. gén. Il l’a fait parce qu'elle ne voulait pas annuler la poursuite pénale contre SNC. 2/n

Fait : Le comm. à l’éthique n’a pas l'autorité légale pour enquêter sur l’ingérence politique dans les poursuites pénales. Justin Trudeau se cache derrière une enquête qui ne peut le tenir responsable. 3/n

Where to begin with this? Essentially, this is the government handing the @TorontoStar a bunch of cash to do a job the government should do on its own. Committee monitoring is a fairly basic function of any Ministerial or Whip's office. There is no need to outsource it. (1/n)
@TorontoStar The @TorontoStar also already provides a subscription-based committee monitoring service. If the gov't wanted TorStar coverage, why didn't they simply subscribe? Why did they sole-source this service at six times the price of the subscription? (2/n)
@TorontoStar It's hard to believe the Liberals wouldn't see a conflict in gifting an inflated contract to the largest newspaper chain in the country in an election year. Then again, the same government is handing out $595M in tax breaks to media outlets, so maybe it's not. (3/n)

Par où commencer ? Essentiellement, le gouvernement a donné de l’argent au @TorontoStar pour faire un travail que le gouvernement devrait faire lui-même. Le suivi des comités est une fonction de base d’un bureau ministériel ou du whip. Pas besoin de le donner à forfait. (1/n)
@TorontoStar Le @TorontoStar offre déjà un service de suivi des comités avec abonnement. Si le gouvernement veut son aide, pourquoi ne pas simplement s’abonner ? Pourquoi offrir un contrat à six fois le prix de l’abonnement ? (2/n)
@TorontoStar Il est difficile de croire que les libéraux ne voient pas de conflit d’intérêts avec un gros contrat à la plus grosse chaîne de journaux du pays en année électorale. Ce gouvernement donne aussi 595 millions $ en allégement fiscal aux médias. (3/n)
