(THREAD) Why Trump’s Answer to the Trump Tower Question Likely Just Incriminated Him:

Today CNN first reported that two answers to Mueller’s questions to Trump were leaked.

This leak almost certainly came from Trump’s legal team in an effort to try and make sure all witnesses are on the same page regarding their story (likely lie). In one of the answers Trump specifically stated that he was not aware of the infamous Trump Tower meeting in 2016...
where Don Jr., Paul Manafort, Jared Kushner and others met with a Russian agent to “get dirt on Hillary Clinton”.

Now let’s rewind a couple of days to when Mueller filed court documents indicating that Manafort had broken his plea agreement by lying.

Manafort was a key witness at the Trump Tower meeting and was the campaign manager at the time. He would have almost certainly known if Trump was aware of this meeting before it took place, and likely communicated with Trump and others about this meeting.
While we do not know yet if one of Manafort’s lies, which broke his plea agreement, was related to the Trump Tower meeting, it is quite likely in my opinion. Why do I say this?
Because Michael Cohen said earlier this year that Trump was in fact informed about the meeting prior to it taking place. Cohen also said that several other people were in the room when Trump was informed of this forthcoming meeting.

This means that if Cohen is telling the truth, which there is very little reason for him not to be, then Mueller has multiple witnesses able to corroborate not only the fact that Trump knew about the meeting, but also that Manafort likely knew that Trump knew about the meeting.
Now, as you know, Manafort and Trump have had a joint defense agreement. Manafort would likely have told the same story that Trump did, in that Trump was not aware of the meeting prior to it taking place.
Mueller knew that Manafort would almost certainly collaborate with Trump on both their testimonies, being that there was NO gag order in place like the one Mueller forced Manafort's deputy, Rick Gates into.
Mueller already had the testimony from Cohen and likely others, indicating that Trump knew about the meeting prior to it taking place. This means that if Manafort lied and said Trump did not know about the meeting, then Mueller was aware of the lie and expected Trump to answer...
it the same way.

There is no reason for Mueller to have even asked Trump this question other than to catch him in a lie. If Mueller knew Trump was not aware of the meeting, he simply would not have asked the question.

It appears that Trump fell right into Mueller's trap!
