I tweet about the #OpioidEpidemic fairly frequently but I guess not enough. I'm going to do a thread, in no particular order, on some facts. Much mis-information is out there. And I watched a townhall from Liberty University yesterday where the same misinformation was spewed.
Basically, where we are at is this, legit pain patients cannot get an RX and the RX's are down yet O.D.s are up. The following pieces will help explain why. And all are well sourced. So here goes. Starting with a big problem. The data is wrong. Also, govt can't fix this.

In fact, the legitimate pain patients are being punished so severely, that some are committing suicide. The AMA President's patient couldn't get his rx filled, tried to kill himself. It was after that the AMA made some major announcements re the CDC's "guidelines"
AMA: ‘Inappropriate Use’ of CDC Guideline Should Stop painnewsnetwork.org/stories/2018/1…
I have more if anyone wants additional information. I am not sure why small government conservatives refuse to believe that CDC (government) data is flawed. Or that the government can't fix a drug problem. Or that the govt has no place in the Dr's office. Or that ETOH is a killer
But it's ALL TRUE.
Much reading material there.
Please, educate yourselves. As it is, we have Eric Bolling, Kellyanne Conway and other non M.D.'s essentially causing legit pain patients much harm. #LUConvo
One of the new modalities, or treatments that pain centers are requiring some patients to use are Spinal Cord Simulators. Here is a horrifying piece on them. And the pain clinics get much more money for them than for an RX appt apnews.com/86ba45b0a4ad44…

Study Finds Opioid Medication Effective for Chronic Pain painnewsnetwork.org/stories/2018/5… yet the chronic pain patients are suffering. #ScreamLouder #OpioidCrisis
I heard the president of Liberty University say "Don't take pain meds unless it is a life or death situation." Is he an MD? Melania Trump was also there. Not a single M.D. was dispensing advice at L.U. yesterday. That is all for today.
For a chronic pain patient including a cancer patient to get their (reduced) prescriptions, they must be in compliance with the CDC, the DEA, the State & Fed laws. They must have a contract with their Dr. They are drug tested. Pills are counted. They are treated like addicts.
Then, the insurer can deny if they see fit. Or, as was the case with the AMA President's end stage cancer patient, the pharmacist refused to fill his rx. His pain was too much & he decided suicide was the only out. This has to stop. Full stop.
In some cases, packaging has been changed. The State of Fl is requiring some rx's to be in blister packs rather than bottles. Imagine how unhelpful that is to the cancer patient with bone pain or the person with severe arthritis, or a broken arm etc.
Or this, which is what @AStuttaford was referencing: Montezuma's Revenge: FDA to Limit Diarrhea Pills. And yet people continue to o.d. from the real problem: illicit fentanyl and heroin. painnewsnetwork.org/stories/2018/1…
One more. This NY Times piece today does not mention alcohol which is, in fact, killing more people than illicit and legal opiates combined. Maybe, start there with the life expectancy issue. nytimes.com/interactive/20… Fin/

And finally, for today, an old drug is making a comeback. Crystal Meth. Most of it is being made in Mexico by cartels. And sometimes its secretly mixed with fentanyl, which is even deadlier than heroin. courier-journal.com/story/news/cri…
To add to this thread today. No one currently suffering from the war on chronic pain patients should be advocating for single payer healthcare. If you think the govt makes bad decisions about rx's, consider them being in charge of all of it. One sized fits all. No remedies.
I've heard from many of you that you're with Kaiser or another HMO or have a rx PBM with a formulary. Your current problems would be minor in comparison to the feds being in total charge of your healthcare. Something to consider since it's a timely conversation.

Continuing my ongoing thread on the truth on the #OpioidCrisis , @Foxnews online has picked this up. As I just said with #Obamacare , government is never the answer. The same is true with the #FentanylCrisis. Three part series in next few tweets.

To add to this thread today is another thread. Something I've avoided tweeting about but it has to be said. It's the Eric Bolling and President Trump relationship and it is impacting pain patients. It needs to stop.
