Concerned Nigerians have rightly enquired about the Industrial Policy on the @MBuhari Govt. Bearing in mind that a targeted Industrial Policy creates the milieu for a thriving manufacturing sector which is critical to sustainable economic development,
let us examine some aspects of the #ERGP, our home-grown economic stimulus plan, which is aimed at restoring economic growth to Nigeria while leveraging the ingenuity and resilience of the Nigerian people and building a globally competitive economy.
The strategic goals of #ERGP are:
i.Restoring growth.
ii.Investing in Nigerians.
iii.Building a competitive economy.
The Strategies for attaining these #ERGP Goals are:
i.Improving the national infrastructure backbone (power, roads, railways, airports and seaports).
All nations who have developed their economies & successfully moved million form poverty had Govts who created targeted industrial policies that attracted investment. The transformation of the floriculture & leatherworks sectors in Ethiopia, automobile sector in Thailand,
Agriculture sector in Brazil were all achieved because of targeted Govt policies which were implemented over a period of years allowing for industries to grow. #ERGP Goals (i&ii) are the roots of the @MBuhari Industrial policy.
This is premised on the fact that Govts must evolve from being an omnibus provider of citizens’ needs into a force for eliminating the bottlenecks that impede innovation and market-based solutions.
This led to the establishment in October, 2017 of the Presidential Council on Ease of Doing Business (PEBC).…
This led to the simplification of Company Registration to a 24hr process from start to completion, issuance of visa on arrival in Nigeria by the @nigimmigration & within 24hrs of visa request at Nigerian Embassies, 24hr clearance of imported goods at the Sea Ports,
designation of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in the 6 geo-political zones where N90Billion shall be invested by Govt in providing infrastructure for the SEZs, tax incentives would also be provided to operationalise the SEZs.…
To further make Nigeria embrace tech. innovations which is central to a sustainable Industrial policy, In 2 years, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has established 3 IT Hubs, 86 Digital Capacity Building Centers nationwide,…
80 Digital Jobs creation Centers, 8 Virtual Libraries, 7 World Class Wide Area Networks & awarded scholarships to 91Nigerians to study I.T related disciplines.

Tech Start Ups & Focal Labs have also been established in the 6 geopolitical zones
where science & technology driven innovations are being taught in collaboration with domestic & international technology giants.

The @npower_ng scheme has elevated technical training through internship with automotive plants to ease capacity acquisition.
In July, 2017 Executive Order No 3 was signed mandating all Ministries Depts & Agencies (MDAs) to spend no less than 40% of their annual budgets on locally produced requirements such as automobiles, beverages, computers, stationeries, military &para-military accortuments, etc.
As a direct result of the policy, the Security Agencies are all procuring operational vehicles from Innoson. Ministry of Interior, Police, Prison Services have all reached agreements with Innoson for vehicle acquisition of varying amounts.
The net effect of these is the steady improvement of domestic manufacturing starting from vehicle components.
Confidence in the @MBuhari Industrial policy made Dangote Group to, in June 2018, enter into a JV with Northern Govts and acquired Peugeot Automobiles in Kaduna.
They plan to commence vehicle assembly in Jan. 2019. These are the tangible effects of @MBuhari Industrial policies.
Previously, military & paramilitary uniforms & accortuments were imported from China. The E03 has now made all such procurements to be made from domestic sources,
hugely improving business for Leather Works manufacturers in Aba as sole providers of boots & belts for the Security Services.…
In August 2017, a Turkish Company collaborating with N.Nigerian Dev. Co. is investing $10Million to revive Kaduna Textiles for the manufacturing of uniforms for the Military & para military Services.…
In July 2018, Dutch Companies led by Textile Giant, Vlisco disclosed they were planning a 400 hectares textile park in Nigeria where they can resume producing textiles. Again this was achieved bcz @Mbuhari Industrial policy inspires investor confidence.…
Another Dutch company Cowexxion expressed its preparedness to invest 11Million Euros in building Livestock Ranches in Nigeria focusing on dairy production for domestic use & exports. Again indicative of growing the domestic manufacturing sector.
Following the signing of an MOU in Sept'18 with @VolkswagenSA to commence domestic car assembly & develop a joint vision to make Nigeria its automotive hub in W. A, by Nov. 2018, @Volkswagen began a consultative talks aiming to bring the plan to fruition.…
These were only possible because @MBuhari Industrial Policy entails some incentives including increased tariffs for imported vehicles which is making car manufacturing companies establish their business in Nigeria so as to continue benefiting from the Nigerian market.
Deliverables such as increased jobs, accelerated industrialization of our modes of production etc all have lead to economic growth which berths development.
In Nov 2018, the @TradeInvestNG signed with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO),
a Country Assistance Programme fund for Nigeria worth $60M for the 2018-2022 period. Areas covered nclude: Industrial Governance/Research & Stats, MSMEs development. SEZs/Industrial Parks/PPP driven development & innovation, Agro-Industry & agri-business development.
@UNIDO plays a crucial role in the successful implementation of industrial policies of less developing countries. signing such a robust partnership programme with @AsoRock illustrates international institutional confidence with @MBuhari Industrial Policies.
Addressing the linkage between thriving industry & its access to stable power, the @NERC has invited interested manufacturing companies to apply for licenses to enable them evacuate an idle 2000MW Power directly from the GENCOS to power their plants.…
What this has the potential of achieving is addressing the access to power challenges which is a highly important factor necessary for the growth and development of any economy.
Finally, as noted in a '15 publication by Joseph Stiglitz a Nobel Laureate in Economics,‘economic growth is not about the fastness or slowness of implementing growth policies, but about prioritizing & sequencing the implementation of economic growth policies based on a countries’
capacity for implementation’. This best explains the pattern of implementation that @MBuhari has adopted in growing the Nigerian economy under pinned by a purposeful Industrial Policy.
Nigerians should embrace this pattern of industrial growth by renewing @MBuhari & @ProfYemiOsinbajo to take Nigeria into the #NextLevel.

The End
