A couple of weeks ago, someone brought my attention to the letter Reagan wrote George H.W. Bush when he took office, which is the custom for the outgoing President.
There are some interesting insights here
Notice the salutation. Put a pin in that for the moment. “Jeb’s Dad”
“Turned” into the President is an interesting term. Not elected. Kind of like it was preordained?
“Bravo, etc.”. Very dismissive, again, like it was expected
I think he’s setting George up to think Ronald is senile and this continues throughout the letter
Reagan probably just wants to retire to California and be left alone
He’s also telling him to put Americans first
Biting an orange. Who does that? Almost like he thinks he’s an idiot. This seems condescending
Still trying to figure out whether the worm anecdote is code or Senility
The address is the current Phoenix arena. Originally, America West Arena, which broke ground in August 1990, more than a year after this letter
Did something happen here? Failed assassination attempt?
Whether there’s a meaning between the two about the address or he’s communicating that he doesn’t want to be contacted, it’s a part with more meaning
We all now assume Bush was behind the Reagan assassination attempt. Reagan knew too and he’s telling him he knows
BOOM. He also knows who’s behind the JFK murder and he’s letting Bush know. Was the Secret Service behind it?
The more I think about it, the Reagan presidency felt like a Bush proxy presidency after the failed assassination attempt
