So just to make it clear, taking action to warn other women to keep safe is “encouraging people to victimize themselves.”

What are women allowed to do?
I mean, this is the scenario. It is, in fact, harassment, and the reasons for the harassment are things that are easily capable of repetition.
The stance that women cannot warn others about this man is mind-boggling. The only way this makes intellectual sense is if harassment is assumed to be substantially less harmful than accusations of harassment.
This is why I say that men who get all her up about this should be presumed harassers for the purposes of keeping yourself safe: If someone believes harassment has no effect on women, I do not trust them not to do it.
This is precisely the opposite of victimization.

It’s recognizing a threat and acting in a way that counters it.
If you say “this encourages victimization” and you mean “it encourages women to stand up for their right to be safe” then yeah, we’re not having a conversation.
If you don’t *like* the fact that this is basically the ONLY FUCKING TOOL in the arsenal to fight sexual harassment, then fight for people to take harassment seriously on a procedural level.
But look, #metoo is about a due process problem—those who are harassed often have no other process available to them to seek redress.
I don’t think #metoo is the best solution! It sucks! It’s horrible!

But it sure as fuck beats the nothing that we had before.
