Good piece on why @BernieSanders has a strong foundation for a 2020 POTUS run. I'll add some more fuel to this bern as someone who was one of Bernie's 2016 California delegates. #Bernie2020 thread ⬇️
Let's start with age issue.

Nancy Pelosi is 78 = 1-1/2 years older than Bernie. She's up for SOTH.

Dianne Feinstein is 85 = 8 years older than Bernie. She was re-elected and will be 91 when her term ends.

Their age related to being able to serve office has not been a factor.
Reality. Dem party is split into 2 sides because of ideological divide primarily around 💰 in politics + corporate influence on policy.

Which side can win over Independents (51% of electorate), rural voters, and those who feel marginalized?

Bernie won these voters in 2016.
But importantly, who can win over the coveted Millennial voters?

In 2016, Bernie got more Millennial votes than Trump + HRC put together. In primaries, he got 80%+ of the Millennial vote in many states.

Policy matters to them more than age.

📲 @BernieSanders has a social media empire.

He has 32+ MILLION followers combined on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts. No other Dem candidate is even close to that reach.

His #Medicare4All town hall had 1+MILLION viewers which is more than what most MSM shows get.
In 2nd POTUS runs, voters start looking at others with fresh new ideas.

The new ideas ARE Bernie's platform:
✅ Medicare-for-all
✅ $15 Minimum wage
✅ Tuition-free college
✅ Green New Deal
✅ $1 trillion infrastructure plan

His bold 10-point plan: truthdig.com/articles/berni…
Bernie has been talking about these policies for ages. Compared to his popular platform, the other 2020 Dem candidates will look like me-toos. It will be:

Like Bernie but younger + more centrist
Like Bernie but younger + a woman of color
Like Bernie but younger + not Bernie
Onto ground game. After 2016, Bernie Dems started to take over leadership roles in state and city level Dem chapters.

ie. In CA, Bernie Sanders delegates took over 1/2 of the state Dem party so going into 2020 the establishment cannot pull stunts like it did in 2016.
Bernie Sanders has a 50-state campaign infrastructure already in place that's been active since 2016 because he was smart to create @OurRevolution. The second he announces #Bernie2020 BOOM game on!

No other Dem candidate is even close to this level of ground game.
Let's talk campaign finances.

The candidate to get the 2020 Dem nomination will need to be able to raise at minimum $100+ million by January 1, 2020. Why?

California.
CA moved up its 2020 primary to Super Tuesday in March. 9+ other states will have their primaries including Texas that day.

CA has the most delegate votes out of all the primaries amounting to 20% of delegates needed to clinch the nomination, and Texas is 3rd.
Campaigning in CA is EXPENSIVE and EXTENSIVE. Mail-in voting starts 30-days prior to primary day so essentially CA voters start voting when Iowa does its primary.

Ground game is crucial when 10 states do their primary on the same day especially now since CA is involved.
Don't assume Kamala Harris will automatically win CA. Home state is not always an advantage. Jerry Brown lost to Bill Clinton in 1992. Rubio lost to Trump in 2016.

Bernie Sanders has powerful ground game in CA + he can get 25K people to show up for a rally in 48-hour notice.
The @TheSandersInst is holding their first Gathering event #sandersinstitutegathering18 as we speak. It's essentially Bernie's team laying out the issues and policies for what a Sanders presidency would be about.

It's powerful! Go watch the videos. facebook.com/pg/sandersinst…
And lastly, what Bernie Sanders has more than anyone else is TRUST. Even among his Republican colleagues, Bernie is known as the most trusted politician there is.

Having a POTUS who is trusted will be MUCH welcomed and needed following 45. #Bernie2020
