Strong start by @GregHands. Sound choice of shirt/tie.
Also: mentions the 5 new schools in his area since 2010. He attended 3 of their openings. Results of these schools are stonking. #statstastic
Ooh, accurate use of P8 alert. 👏👏👏
30 academies and free schools in his area. All good or outstanding. Praises autonomy available to these schools. #AutonomyAlert
Lovely testimony by a free school head read out by GH. I relate to every word of it. #JoyOfStartingAfresh
Intervention MP, asking GH to add the role of parents in all of this. Aye. @bedsfreeschool wouldn't have happened without the collaboration between founder teachers and parents. #ItTakesAVillage
Ah ha: "31% of free schools are outstanding Vs 21% all schools" klaxon! #statstastic
"Evidence shows that acads & free schools more likely to be succeeding..." Um, FS yes. Acads not so much. @MikeKaneMP refutes this. (Rightly so.)
Come on Greg, come back with @TheNFER stuff about MATs being more financially eff & channeling stronger teachers into tougher schools.
Now GH attacking Hammersmith & Fulham under Labour wrt school place planning, define in % getting 1st choice schools. Predicting deficit of places in next few years. If only there was a govt policy that would solve this problem... 🤔
GH now reading out @AngelaRayner's words on what Labour will do re. academies & FS.
Ooh, @SchoolsWeek article klaxon. 91 closed trusts in recent years. Alas, I don't think the MP realises that some of these (a decent % IIRC) closed as they merged with other MATs ie for good strategic reasons.
I can't believe this debate isn't packed out. Only 8 in the audience. Wake up sheeple! There's nothing else of any importance going on in parliament right now, ok?! #CrisisWhatCrisis
A fair contribution about monitoring of schools, kids going to home schooling,, etc, by Labour MP called (I think) Alex.

(I'd be a rubbish lobby journalist.) #WasNeverVeryGoodWithNamesAnyway
@JHowellUK now. Mentions again the freedoms and flexibility free schools offer, for parents and their children, around the kind of education available.
Just spotted that he's the MP for Henley. A fine successor to Hezza and BoJo. I wonder if he has a catchy nickname too?
A lengthy exposition about teaching in other languages, at a free school in JH's constituency. #TresBien #SehrGut
Alex Cunningham now saying he doesn't like kids being sent to isolation. Or being excluded. Based on last night's episode of #school, as far as I can tell. I hope he's #ReadyToLearn more about what schools actually do, or he might need to be sent to the #ReadyToLearn room.
He wants to know about high needs funding. I think. I'm not sure now. So many questions here.
Now for more @MikeKaneMP.
He's now reading out Latin school mottos. #sound
Ooh "simple Google search" alert. Based on this, MK is going to judge the issues facing the academies system. It's novel, I'll grant him that.
GH has asked if MM supports AR's statement that Labour would end acads & FS programme.

MK said there will be new schools **and new acads** but that they will be accountable to local people. Hang on. This is new. **New acads**???
Maybe he misspoke. Wouldn't be the first time...

Fair point by MK about the greater difficulty in rural areas in finding good academy sponsors.

Alex from Stockton (I sound like the bloke from Blind Date) says that the academies in his area work closely with the LA. #QuelleSurprise #WhodHaveThunkIt
#Austerity klaxon. Then:

MK doesn't think acads & free schools are bad.
- They won't cancel pipeline free schools. (I think this is news, @SchoolsWeek
- No current school will see it's status change. (Yes, but that's because you can't do that #7YearFundingAgreements.)
MK has asked for ministers to ban any RPTs where a profit is being made **regardless of kind of school**
- the AFH already bans RPTs unless they're done at cost ie no profit
- it's maintained schools that have no rules on this, & so we have NO IDEA what's going on.
He says free schools opening in areas where there's no demand. That depends on what you mean by demand I guess. If the alternative if places in schools with poor track record, I bet there is demand from parents. So local schools have nothing to fear if they're good for kids.
But I would say that, wouldn't I? #ConfirmationBias
Oh gosh. Name checked just now by the lovely @NickGibbUK. 🤩☺️
And now he's moved onto the surpluses held by MATs etc. #FinanceIsFun #CheckOutMySurplus
NG points out all academy RPTs will have to be flagged up to DfE from next year.

Ooh, and there is the correction re. FS closures that MK got wrong in HoC the other day. 👏👏👏
Ah, there's the compulsory @DixonsTA mention. And @InspirationEast and @HarrisFed too.
442 FSs open, which will provide >250000 places, with 265 in the pipeline. "Challenging the status quo" and "changing what people believe is possible".

Ooh, #KnowledgeRichCurriculum klaxon. (Can't believe it's taken so long TBH.)
Name check for @HWSFNews & their success in getting kids from all backgrounds into top unis.
This is pretty robust stuff from Gibb. So many stats! #statstastic
Ok, I can't keep up. Time for a #CatGif
And now he's pushing hard the stats about the FS success in GCSEs this summer. Could almost have been taken straight from a certain independent charity's FS briefing. 😉
#4OutOfTopTen #BestPerformingTypeOfStateSchool
NG wants to see FS programme extending into areas that haven't benefitted from them yet.

Alex says he gets impression that FSs have been in leafy advantaged areas...

NG responds with stat that they generally haven't been.
124 appns received for Wave 13 recently. 14th wave will be launched shortly. (Hurrah!) #FreeSchoolstastic
#MathsSchools klaxon now. I've always considered these to be the closest we've got to Prof. Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.
Now we're moving on @GregHands' winding up speech.

Good news: it's not compulsory to speak all the way through to the official end time. #phew
Name check for @WestLondonFree. 👏 Says given how hard it is to open 1 new schools, it is amazing that this govt has enabled 5 in his area alone. And says it's sad that local councils now against FSs & so will be short of school places.
@GregHands exhorts Labour to review their policy of opposing academies & free schools, given how successful & popular they are.
3 mins left.
And that's a wrap at 10:57:45. #Fin
