House of Card season 6 (the final). I finally finished it. And... 🤔
I hated that ending. So much. Because it felt rushed, as if they ran out of set time and were just like "welp. guess we won't have time to really finish it." I legit was waiting for the next scene and was like "wait. that's it?"
Claire is ice cold. However, the way they made her weaponize her womanhood in cartoonish ways at times was so unlike what we know of that character that it felt lazy to me. The moment she was challenged, she'd be all "it's because I'm a woman." That has never been Claire.
I kept on being like "Nah, that's not a Claire thing." Her character has also never been one to show up as incompetent. I still don't fully see how that was necessary for her to get what she wanted. There were too many holes.
I know the writers had to prolly come up with a new season very quickly, but I feel like certain balls were dropped that coulda been handled better. And again, that ending was like they ran out of time and just went "aight we'll end there." Bhet... I have questions.
The questions they left from that ending weren't the "use your imagination to fill in the blanks" type. It was the "we ran out of time to tie up ALL THESE LOOSE ENDS" type. Too many things left hanging in the air.
For that to be the finale of the entire series of #HouseofCards was a let down. It's like getting everyone ready for a dope fireworks show and you show up and the fireworks get in the air but when they're supposed to pop, they just fall down to earth.
Some of my favorite shows, like The Wire and Breaking Bad maintain "great" status because their endings gave closure and they didn't fizzle. It's hard leaving HOC in my "greats" list because this ending straight made me feel like "ok.... sooooooo...?"
Robin Wright is amazing and she can carry the show but the storyline, though engaging, left much to be desired. She had too many holes to work with. Her suits were FIREEEE, doe. Whew. God bless her tailor b/c her suits fit like second skin!
THAT IS NOT HOW YOU END THIS SHOW. DID YALL JUST QUIT ON SET?? Now I'm mad. How could y'all end this show like that?!? @HouseofCards gotta let us know some director's notes. Did y'all run out of time? For real. Tell us.
If they did run out of time for shooting, they shoulda put some end cards with "and then here's what happened next..." It felt phoned in, and for a show that has been one of the smartest ones on TV for all these years, it's like seeing the class valedictorian fail gym. HOW?
And the Shepherds. We have never known them and now they're the ultimate puppetmasters? HOW? I do enjoy Diane Lane and Greg Kinnear. Yet and still... it all felt so thrown together.
And don't get me started on the Cathy Durant mess. THAT was written to haphazardly.
And to be honest, I STILL do not understand Doug's real motives in being the biggest ride-or-die of all time for Frank.
