Gotta tell you about this band my guy and I saw last night called @MinusTheBear. They're on their "farewell tour" and Sacramento was lucky enough to have a slot on the last leg.
@minusthebear They're basically Nick's favorite band of all time, and he's seen @minusthebear five (now six!) times in concert. He's told me about them before and I've mostly been like "Yeah, okay..." and he's played me their music and I was like "Okay, this stuff's pretty good..."
@minusthebear If you know one thing about my boyfriend, you know how much music has an influence on his life (he is, after all, a fellow musician), and this band was a big part of that influence. Before last night, I wasn't aware of how much of an influence they have on so many people.
@minusthebear When they announced their farewell tour, Nick snagged tickets for us really early on, and pushed a lot of his friends to go. I think somewhere along the lines of 20 of us went. 20! You try getting 20 people together to do anything that isn't holiday-based.
@minusthebear I went not knowing any of the names or lyrics to any of the songs, but that palpable magic of the room is undeniable once it hits you. It's a collective feeling that only really, really good music can bring. It's like love: When you find it, it's really special.
@minusthebear And these guys have been doing it for 17 years. Just let that sink in. That's almost half my lifetime. That's a long time to commit to anything. You can tell their product of love has given way to a lot of great times and great memories for thousands of people.
@minusthebear And now, these guys, they don't want to be bystanders in their own lives anymore. You really get that sense. It's like, "We love you guys, but we gotta live a little bit of this life for us too."
@minusthebear I'm glad I know of them now. I'm glad I didn't miss out. I'm really glad they gave my babe and my friends so many wonderful songs to make memories to. I'm grateful their talent and love gave way to inspiration and admiration. That's art and talent right there.
@minusthebear So, thanks @minusthebear for giving my guy and his friends and me one last (and for me, my first!) really amazing show. Enjoy the down time. And when you start to miss that magic, remember that "farewell" doesn't have to mean "forever."
