So my initial thoughts on the @Airbus A321NEO... Far out the engines are massive. And quiet. Did an upper-middle range flex takeoff from Auckland and I could barely hear them. Departing Melbourne we were almost TOGA and they were still barely noticeable. #AvGeek
You know what? I think it feels more like a 777-300ER than anything else. It rides like one, sounds a bit like one and the engines definitely behave in similar ways with their low frequency rumble. On the ground it feels like the 300 too.
You can definitely draw a parallel between the feel of the 777-200 and the 777-300 to the difference between a 320CEO and 321NEO.
The cabin looks fantastic. So much more locker space. Leg room seems good in the minute I had spare to check it out.
Lots of nice refinements in the flight deck too. This light is a nice improvement, however I kept hitting my head on it!
The security camera display has been moved and is significantly clearer. That might not come across so well in this photo though...
Some general exterior aeroplane porn...As I'd said earlier this was it's first revenue flight so nice and clean!
I don't know exactly what magic is going on behind the scenes with active cooling etc but the P&W GTF operates so much hotter than the IAE V2500. EGT for takeoff on the V2500 send to sit around 500-550°c whereas the GTF the high 900s.
The GTF also has this wierd double EGT spike on start. Never seen that on a jet before. It rises to about 120°c then reduces for a bit then accelerates again like a normal start. Positive fuel flow the whole time. So, different.
We've changed to the Thales FMGC. Some changes for the better, some not. Definitely not a fan of the keypad. Very mushy keys without a nice positive click.
Oh, one last thing, and let's just keep it between you and me, but this thing lands a little differently too...
