1. If there were another in/our referendum I probably wouldn't bother voting for one reason... The debate has become utterly polarised between the two extremes. It wouldn't even be about #Brexit anymore. Thread...
2. All this toryboy waffle about "fwee twade" is a relatively new addition to the Eurosceptic necronomicon. Most of it appeared shortly before the referendum and didn;t develop until a while after. This is because the ERG are not Brexiters.
3. I know this because I was there at the beginning of Ukip, when meetings were Alan Sked and Nigel Farage speaking to an empty village hall, with an audience of two old men in colonial blazers and an old farting labrador. Old school euroscepticism was never about trade.
4. By the time it became a movement, thanks to Kimmy Goldsmith, it was primarily about democracy and sovereignty and a campaign against Euro membership - back when euro-federalism had real momentum.
5. It would have stayed that way too were it not such a niche concern - but pivoted to immigration because there were a million northern votes in euro-elections that would otherwise have gone on the BNP. The "fwee twade" schtick was always Tory fringe obsession.
6. In an alternate universe where Ukip was competent, it would have won the battle for lead campaign designation hands down, but Matthew Elliott and his Tufton Street sock puppets had been plotting running the referendum for years. They had the money and connections to do it.
7. With the Tory Vote Leave crew being in pole position, having backing from within the house of commons, it then became a vehicle for the hard right libertarians who've been stalking euroscepticism for a decade or more.
8. Through their respective propaganda vessels they have co-opted the leave movement, and turned them into braying soldiers of the economic far right, even suckering in dodgy old Marxists like Spiked Online and thicko Labourists like Hoey and Stuart.
9. So the proposition in any new referendum would be Tory "fwee twade" armageddon versus the euromongs - both of which I despise equally and and would find either result equally depressing.
10. If remain won we'd be back to business as usual with the same old bullshit for politics as the essentials gradually decay (managed decline). If the ERG loons win then its a full blown run at Singapore on Thames only to be buggered senseless by American corporations.
11. So if we're buggered either way, there's be absolutely no point whatsoever in voting. A managed ambitious Brexit aimed at reshaping European relations, wouldn't be on the ballot and I'm not voting for a libertarian ragnarok.
12. I'm all in for a Brexit that rebuilds British self-governance and restores the sovereignty of people but that's not what JRM and his band of cronies have in mind. They don't give a toss about Brexit and never did. This a closer to a bank heist than an independence movement.
