People simply don't want to believe that what happened at Gatwick is so easy that it can happen by accident. It MUST be malicious, it HAS to be a cover story, theres simply NO WAY a drone operator could go undetected for so long.
Meanwhile everyone in the drone community is
rolling their eyes. If you understand the technology, youd be surprised this doesnt happen more often purely by accident.
People would rather believe this is a cover up for some black shadow government conspiracy, than accept that it could be a kid with a christmas present who simply didnt know better.
The latter is so so much more likely, you dont even know.
People simply do not want to believe their world is this fragile. It just cant be in their minds. They are so unbelievably mistaken. The only thing thats kept the world going is that people want to do more good than bad, and a bit of luck too.
I've done infosec. I've done physical security. Dont ask me what hell the petrol industry that you rely on for every aspect of your life, is like. People just cant accept that an innocent accident could do this and so much more.
I've literally seen *every* excuse for this incident. Its terrorists. Its enviromentalists protesting. Its some black shadow government cover up.
While I wont rule it out because the world is a chaotic place, its so much more likely to be accidental.
Thats the most frustrating part about all of this in mind.
People are jumping to conclusions that they have no right or evidence to.
Theyre pulling stuff out their arse, and everyones like "yeah...I like that. That sounds like the best answer"
I deal with this stuff for a living.
Dumb luck and the same kind of ignorance that likely caused this incident, is the only reason this doesnt happen more.
Every aspect of your life is so much more fragile than you think, but its this pack mentality, the thought that if you dont believe it, it cant be real that has kept things going for so long.
Nevermind the army of people cleaning up these messes and keeping you sane.
The people that get paid minimum wage to deal with your garbage and sewage and all other less than glamorous jobs, are the same ones that maintain your fragile view of the world.
People dont think about "what if they werent there"
But hey. Happy holidays everyone.
Especially so to those who go unnoticed and unthought of this time of year. The people who work every gorram day to keep the world going. You all the real MVPs.
Dont mistake all of this as pessimism, by the way.
Im just...disappointed, I guess, that more people dont realize all it takes is one screw up to significantly impact everything they know and love...if they did, we'd all probably be a little more kind cognisant of one another.
Either that or, or be out for blood.
If it werent for the same people that know these things being either morally stronger or just significantly less motivated than those who are determined to do harm...
We'd have a lot more problems on our hands.
Ignorance is bliss, as they say.
