For many years I've moaned about excessive health and safety culture in the UK but the ample signalling and reflective surfaces on UK roads are a godsend. Travelled for over a thousand miles without seeing a traffic cone in Europe, but UK shows just how useful they are.
If anything though, I would say that the UK approach deskills driving. You no longer look out for the things you need to observe. It's all right in front of you in neon. Not so in Europe where you REALLY need your wits about you.
Also learned why having regularly cleaned wing mirrors is REALLY important. Was driving a horrible Nissan Juke and all the windows/mirrors had a film of diesel on them which distorts the long distance view. Never been more pleased to be back in my own car.
Also, having driven to Warsaw and back I am inclined to say that SatNavs are the work of the devil. Had the company I was with not insisted on the damn thing I would have switched it off. They are a dangerous distraction. Roadcraft and navigation depends on preparation.
