Thread. #MyLifeAsAResister looking back at 12 months which feels Iike 12 years. So much happened every day, but we put one foot in front of the other, wading through the lies, the chaos, the deconstruction of our institutions. We keep our faith. 1/24
January 2018, for the second time in two years, women and the men who support us, gathered by the millions to send a message. We will not be cowed by a regime that does everything to take away our own agency. My cousin Zigi and I at the #WomensMarch @ZigarinaZigi 2/24
February 2018. Looking for inspiration and wisdom, I went to see Dan Rather, whose book is a must read for resisters. @DanRather spoke eloquently about what he learned from decades of reporting, that we are mighty together, that our core values hold and that it IS up to US. 3/24
Also in February, 2018, I finished a mural for my twin granddaughters. They were born on “Inauguration” day, the only good thing that happened on 1/20/16. Here’s the last panel on the 3rd wall. A real wall, in a home, not on the Mexican border. I resist for them. #Nanafesto 4/24
In March 2018, I went to a local courthouse to laugh my ass off as Department of Justice lawyers tried to defend Donald blocking people who disagreed with him on Twitter. My friend @AynRandPaulRyan was one of the defendants along with this crew. DOJ lost, DJT had to unblock. 5/24
March 2018. First I went to #Parkland to pay my respects to the 17 students and staff who lost their lives when a madman with a gun shot up Marjorie Stoneham Douglas High School in Florida. Then, on the 24th, I participated in #MarchForOurLives. #GunReform barely happened. 6/24
March 2018. I learned from @NathanLerner how to text bank, joining other resisters getting out the vote for the special election in Pennsylvania of winner @ConorLambPA. Whether you text bank, phone bank, do postcards, donate, you are doing something to move the #BlueWave 7/24
April 2018 was a month of meeting up with and listening to powerful women for motivation, inspiration and dedication. The Resistance is led by women. That’s my take. We multitask, we resist and we keep our homes going. We do it all.
@Amy_Siskind @HillaryClinton @staceyabrams 8/24
May 2018. We thought Rod Rosenstein was going to get fired. We thought Jeff Sessions was going to get fired. We thought Robert Mueller’s investigation was going to stop. I made a sign. I was ready to march the moment anything happened to any of them. We were on alert. 9/24
May 2018. We also marched to #ProtectDREAMers because in America, we believe in open arms, diversity, immigrants, everyone getting a chance, everyone having an opportunity. 10/24
June 2018. One of the only good things coming out of this dark time of #Trumpfuckery is the great numbers of people who resist the monster and his cruel regime. Meeting people in real life that I know from Twitter is such a heartwarming, reassuring thing. @DavKat43 from Oz! 11/24
And @lfkraus! We bonded at #MarchForOurLives with @DMR09, too. #ReSISTERS #HomeGirls 12/24
June 2018. We started to learn about children being forcibly removed, pulled from their parents because Stephen Miller and Jeff Sessions hate people of color coming into America. #WhereAreTheChildren had our attention. I went to Homestead Air Base in Fl. to find them. 13/24
July 2018 we marched against #ICE and to #KeepFamiliesTogether Who are we? We are cagers of children. What the regime of cruelty does gets normalized. But not by resisters. We take to the streets. We call our MOC. We write to them, we call horrors out everyday. 14/24
August 2018. Activists don’t stop because the weather is scorching with #ClimateChange and all. We stay cool while protesting. I was at the beach on the Eastern End of Long Island, but I found kids who were out on Main Street in Amagansett writing postcards. #NoKavanaugh 15/24
September 2018. Text banking, phone banking, postcards for candidates, and plenty of rage donating in between meeting more fabulous resisters. @TrisResists is my friend in real life after meeting here. I fell in love with @JadedCreative after seeing him on Twitter! 16/24
September was the sad song of Dr. Christine Blakey Ford who spoke truth to power and renewed #MeToo only to be treated like so many of us, with disdain and disregard. 17/24
October 2018. I went to a town hall with my rep @JerryNadler who is set to head the House Judiciary Committee. I asked him if he would start impeachment proceedings? He hedged. He wants voters behind it so it doesn’t look partisan. Oh, please. #ConstitutionalCrisis 18/24
October 2018 was when I went to my local temple to sit shiva because in Squirrel Hill, near Pittsburgh, a madman with a gun slaughtered my people in a synagogue. I felt sick and scared, vulnerable and horrified. Anti-semtisim is rising in America b/c of Donald, no doubt. 19/24
October 2018. I met someone who tweeted at me. When I asked @PhyllisSilver how she found me on Twitter, she couldn’t recall. She did remind me that she is my elder, though. I have a heart full of love for Ms. Silver and her wing-women too. @JulieAnnSilver 20/24
November 2018. Midterm party with @ybbkaren @MattAsherS @CyrusToulabi to celebrate the mighty #BlueWave after working relentlessly for two years to take back the House, we did it! There were some MAJOR stolen races, in Georgia and Florida. I observed the recount in Fl. 21/24
November 2018 was the time we did HAVE to march to #ProtectMueller. I was in Times Square with a couple of thousand of other resisters. Whitaker had just been named acting AG- what a hack, what a con job. Still, we resist. We persist. We march. We shout. We will not stop. 22/24
December 2018, I see @MichelleObama at #BarclaysBrooklyn where along with 19 thousand others, we cheer her like the rock star she is, because we WANT to go high. Sometimes, I go low, though. Also was asked to be on leadership advisory board for @RunBeto2020 23/24
My year in activism was full of it! Wishing all resisters everywhere around the world a happy 2019. Keep on keeping on. We have work to do! I am with you. See you at the next #WomensMarch 1/19/19. Peace out.
