@Delta I’m furious. Your staff at Skymiles specifically told me I could check three bags on a flight to Guatemala. I show at the airport and they tell me there’s an embargo and I can only check two. Now what?!
This is the worst thing an airline has ever done to me. Way to treat first class passengers @Delta.

So let me break this down because I’m ready to inflict some pain. #CustomerService
I have a long trip to multiple locations. One leg of this is official travel. For that reason and others I have a need for a great deal of gear. #AirTravel
I called @delta Skymiles to confirm it would not be an issue to check three bags. They assured me it would not and even helped me find the most economical way to do this (I have Skymiles elite, military, and diplomatic status so there were options)
When I show up for my flight, bags and boxes in hand, they tell me there is an embargo and I simply cannot check three.
I talked to the supervisor on duty this morning at DCA. He was completely unhelpful, treated me rather poorly, and gave me dismissive, unsympathetic answers about my conversation with Skymiles.
He tells me to call the Guatemalan embassy because this is a Guatemalan government embargo and not a @delta policy. Needless to say I am extremely skeptical of that. But the point is, what kind of shit response is that?! Call the embassy? Really?!
So now I have a box I simply cannot take. I asked him what I’m supposed to do. There’s no time to take it home. He said: “I don’t know, try FedEx”

The point here is @delta obviously has poorly trained supervisors and phone support.
And if there was an embargo, that information should have been plastered ALL OVER my check in screen with urgent warnings to passengers. It was not. AT ALL.

This is your fault @delta.
So back to my box. What the hell is a passenger supposed to do after being blindsided and treated like a problem by @delta? Put it in a taxi to a friend’s house and hope like hell the driver is an honest man? Take it home and miss the flight? There are literally no other options
I intend to demand compensation. This is no way to treat (previously) loyal customers. You can bet I will be telling this story in the First Class cabin today on the way to Guatemala. I will also investigate this “government embargo” tale with my contacts there.

Be ready.
So this continued during my layover in ATL. I went to the desk and told them I want to make a complaint. The lady gave me a phone number. Apparently one can’t even complain in person with @Delta.

I called the number, and of course the office is closed today.
