...Will this challenge be accompanied by Beyoncé and Jay Z vegan money...
Love Bey. Adore her even. But I don’t wanna hear about diet changes from anyone if they’re not paying. PERIODt.
You: You should go vegan because—

I am glad that you *individually* are able to afford being vegan. Stoked even. But are you able to make this accessible to the masses? What about larger families? What’s your plan to address food deserts? How far does Vegan food stretch on the stomach and a couple of dollars???
Are folx even allowed to access/buy such food on food stamps, considering how hard these government muthafuckas like to go on poor people (we had that whole saga where they were trying to ban certain foods—of did you forget)?
Is your *individual* vegan plan sustainable for a family of 6???? Is that gonna get mofos through at least a week of eating? Because I came from a family of AT LEAST 6. With at least 3 cishet boys who played sports. Food is not fucking cheap by any means. TF.
What’s your plan for when another recession hits (it’s coming)? You wanna know the kind of decisions a middling family of 6 had to make when it came to food during the last recession? Because it was not pretty...
And what about time??? Who is preparing this shit? You gonna ask one of these overworked-ass parents to do it, hmm? Y’all say we don’t have the same 24 hours as this celebs (you’re right), but you fail to see how that factors in to food prep.

Make it make sense.

Food is expensive, complex, and extremely political—especially if you’re POOR. Especially because of racialized classism. Don’t talk to people about changing their fucking diet if you don’t have extensive plans to address any of the points mentioned upthread.
A muthafucka tried to compare his food situation living in “some shithole in Europe” to growing up here. And still completely bypassed my points on larger families and *TIME*.

Are y’all okay? Can y’all read? (The answer is no clearly)
I also haven’t even began to talk about how certain staple foods and superfoods that at one point in time we’re cheap af (think quinoa, avocados, etc) but got co-opted by the latest health fad and the rendered inaccessible to certain demographics.
I don’t have the range for that conversation (look at me staying in my lane lol) but it’s one that needs to be had, too.
I can only speak for my own family, but once the co-opting happened, some of these staples/superfoods were the first thing to go in favor of something that could stretch further on the dollar and the stomach.
But y’all don’t think about the shit, you would rather dunk on people for their presumed “bad” food choices.

Do better.
Thank you @rhythmgoddesss for making this point. Food allergies aren’t cheap either. And equally as time consuming.

THIS. THIS. how so many of y’all can be “anti-capitalists” and not think of this is actually astounding.

If I see another “but what about rice and beans” tweet, I’ma scream
