Ok, I have spent 3 hrs cleaning my house up. It started with confetti but now ... now the house is shiny (except the dishes. DO NOT LOOK AT THE SINK). I have a few politics thoughts, as a voter, not a journalist. What I'm looking for in each major DEM 2020 candidate. /1
Let me say that all major politicians are problematic. No one rises to the rank of a major party politician without blemishes, because our system requires all kinds of compromises. Push all candidates.

In general, I want to hear about decarbonization. /2
What I like about the #GreenNewDeal is that it pairs major income inequality issues with decarbonization. It's a good framework. I hope candidates compete to be the Greenest Newest Dealest of them all!

But more specifically. /3
I'd like to hear a preponderance of the native voices I follow and read agree that Warren has made amends for her missteps and that they feel they can now trust her. Those are my vetting voices for Warren 2020. /4
I'd like to hear Anita Hill say that she thinks Biden can be trusted, that they've spoken, that he can't fix the pass, but she's ready to move forward and can support him. /5
I'd like to hear CA abolitionists, BLM, and decriminalization advocates (of both narcotics and esp sex work) say that despite Harris' record as a prosecutor, they think she can be good ally in the White House. /6
I'd like to hear from major black leaders, esp in the American south, that they feel Bernie has learned to pair racial justice issues with his focus on class, and they are ready to trust him. /7
I'd like to hear leading income inequality reformers say that despite Booker's ties to Wall Street, perhaps inevitable for a NJ Democrat, they think he gets it and is ready to reform our financial systems and protect workers. /8
I'd like to hear Beto explain why he is the right leader for AMERICA when his whole identity is tied up with not winning in Texas. He's kind of a blank slate for me, honestly. /9
I'd like to hear Bloomberg come out against billionaires.Tax them down to their last 100 million! #NoBillionaires2020. /10
Then there's Gillibrand, Klobuchar, Brown, Duckworth - none of them have a major flaw I'm aware of that I feel they need to repair. Can they break through? I dunno. /11
I stan for Duckworth. Everyone knows this. /12
Anyway, these are my current tests for the major candidates. They are all HEAVY asks and will take impressive political skills to achieve. And that's what, in January 2019, I'm looking for. Time will tell. /13 /fin FOR NOW!
(the other issue is whether they can articulate disability-inclusive healthcare plans, but that's actually part of my health access beat, so stay tuned)
*past not pass. freudian?
