“Teed up” in the sense that the full court is now expected to weigh in on whether the freeze should stay in place. 1/x tinyurl.com/y7mwtmc5
The court filings strongly suggest that the litigation concerns a company, not an individual, and that the company is a sovereign wealth fund. That leaves out Deutsche Bank, which is a private and commercial bank. 2/x
Most speculation has focused on sovereign wealth funds in the Middle East, especially on the SWFs for Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Coast countries. 3/x
Of these, the QIA (Qatari Investment Authority) has received the most attention, but this seems less likely to me than other GCC countries, 4/x
since Qatar could be expected to be more compliant with the Mueller investigation, and even regard it as an opportunity to cooperate with the investigation. 5/x tinyurl.com/ybzn5zdj
The Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) and the Saudi Public Investment Fund are more likely possibilities, since we know that both countries expressed an interest to Don Jr in a 3 Aug 2016 meeting at Trump Tower in helping Trump to to get elected. 6/x tinyurl.com/ycx6yowo
Another distinct possibility is the Russian Direct Investment Fund. Erik Prince met secretly on 3 April 2017 with Kirill Dmitriev, the head of RDIF, in the Seychelles. (The RDIF has not been sanctioned.) 7/x
There is compelling evidence of multiple perjuries by Prince about this meeting when he was questioned by HPSCI on 30 Nov 2017. The meeting in the Seychelles was arranged by MBZ, the crown prince of Abu Dhabi, and George Nader. 8/x tinyurl.com/yawuwx3m
It’s all a big secret inside the judicial system, but FWIW, I think the likeliest possibilities are Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia, and RDIF, in that order. 9/x
