Don’t let yourself be deceived by Trump-speak about steel fencing--a type of Bollards fencing--as a replacement for a concrete wall. #thewall 1/5
Here’s a construction diagram of one version of the Bollards fencing: the PA68 crash fence. Note that it is designed to be a crash wall, which does not address any problem that exists at the border at all. 2/5 tinyurl.com/ycpcv8tc
Furthermore, the Bollards design has two problems as a border wall that a concrete wall doesn’t have. First, it is see-through, and therefore pass-through. Literally tens of millions of $s could be passed through the slats effortlessly in a single bag. 3/5
Second, you will notice from the construction diagram that there is no defense for tunneling under the Bollards--and underground tunnels are the main avenue for undocumented entry at the border. (Even the concrete embedded pilings wouldn’t really defend against this.) 4/5
So the steel slat fencing that Trump is trying to sell as his default proposal is no better, and arguably even worse, than his beloved concrete wall. At least you can’t pass bags of heroin through a concrete wall (though of course you can throw them OVER the wall). #thewall 5/5
