How To Pray When You Don't Feel Like Praying

- The Secret To Maintaining Your Spiritual Fire and NEVER Burn Out

Have you ever asked yourself: How do I pray when I don't feel like praying ?

Or maybe you used to be on fire for the Lord but somehow you seem to have lost that zeal
And now you want to get back on track but you dont know how.

In this thread, I will show you how and answer those aforementioned questions too.

Without wasting much time, let's jump into God's word.
God speaking through Moses said to the priest "the fire on the altar must be kept burning it must not go out".

That's powerful!

What's remarkable is that they were not told to START the fire. The only instruction was to KEEP the fire burning.
Who started the fire then?. I believe it was God.

Because in that same chapter it says ,"fire came from God and burnt the offerings on the altar "

God starts the fire, they keep it burning.

You are a priest. The Bible says he has made us kings and priests.
When you got born again, God started a fire in your heart.

That's why, for most people, right after accepting Christ they couldn't explain the fire that kindled in their heart.

They always want to pray. Always want to be in the house of God.
Everywhere they went ,they told people about Jesus. They were radically in their giving and Bible study.

I'm sure you can relate.

Yeah,God starts the fire when you got born again,Just like he did with the fire of the altar in the old testament.

But...He doesn't keep it burning
God's job is to start the fire, your job is to keep burning.

Read the verse again and see the emphasis.

"The FIRE of the altar MUST not go out, the priest MUST keep it burning."

Not me (God), not my Angels ,but the priest. Who is the priest? You!!!
Some Christians pray, "Lord, set my heart on fire for you". Nice.

But Will you keep the fire burning ?

Paul said " be fervent in spirit, keep your spiritual fervor".

Who is to keep it? You!

TPT says "keep your passion boiling hot".
That passion came from God. It was imparted into your spirit when you got born again, now keep it hot.

If it gets cold ,its your fault. Nobody else.

You might be asking :How then do I keep the fire burning?

Good question!.
The answer is in the same verse..

It says "EVERY MORNING the priest is to add firewood...".

Every morning. Not when he feels like it. Not when he is happy. Not when things are going well with him.

Every morning !

You burn through discipline not motivation
Paul said "like an athlete, I fight my body and make it do what it should do, not what it wants to do".

Discipline trumps motivation.

If you pray only when you feel like it,you will soon stop praying.

So how do I pray when I dont feel like praying?

Answer : You Pray
You pray till the feelings comes.

You might have to change your style, posture or manner of praying, but praying you must!.

There is no other way.

Same with Bible study ,attending church services, Evangelism .etc
David said "I WILL rise at midnight to give u thanks"

He didn't say the spirit of God will make me rise.

Some are waiting for God to wake them up (at midnight) to pray, Instead of waking up to pray.

"If the spirit doesn't move me,I will move the spirit- Smith WigglesWorth"
Let's look at our theme verse again.

It says "the priest should add wood every morning ".

What is wood? That can be akin to the word of God.

For the Bible says where there is no wood the fire goes out.

Nothing ignites the soul of a man that the word of God.
So you must add the word daily in your heart. Dont wait till Sunday.

Become your own pastor. Preach to yourself. Listen to messages, they will inspire you to pray.

And I mean the right wood. Not every wood is good for fire.
So listen to Bible based sermons.

God himself said "is not my word like fire?".

When you aren't listening to his word, there will be no continuous fire.

Once again : discipline. You dont have to feel like doing it, do it until the feelings come
(Just an example)I have prayed everyday for the past 5years .

Of those 5 years (1,500+ days) the number of times I woke up feeling like praying is not up to 10.

But I still wake up at the same time everyday and pray. I pray until I begin to feel the power of God surge thru me
And it's always glorious. but sometimes I dont feel anything. But I still won't stop praying till I have exhausted my prayer time for that day.

You should read my thread on how to pray, I will post the link at the end of this thread.
So what ?
Structure your day/life.

That's discipline. Our theme verse says "EVERY MORNING,add wood.."

I'm a big believer in rituals and routine's.

Have times of prayers ,soul winning and Bible study and do them.
One great advantage of rituals is it let's you know when you are going off track.

Jesus said "the entering in of other things choke the word".

why? They weren't watching.

So structure your life. Have times of prayers.

In this fast paced world we are in,
Its easy to lose your prayer time and not know it. But by setting specific times of prayers, days you know you won't be able to pray at that time ,you will make the necessary adjustment .
Concerning Jesus,it was said "he will preach every morning and evening but spent his night on the mountains".

What do you think he was doing on the mountain? Fellowshipping with his father DAILY!!!

Daily prayer ! Daily study! Daily fellowship
Other times the Bible says , he(Jesus) sent the multitudes away so he could pray".

Jesus knew when to stop, step aside and pray

Know when to end that chat, movie, game and pray.
If there is anything you should lose in this life it should no be your passion for God.
