The #NHS Long Tem Plan highlights what nurses across primary care have been declaring for a while - ‘Make better use of existing staff nurses, physios, pharmacists need a far greater role’.

2. Successful change & innovation requires all professionals to be valued & enabled to practice at the top end of the skill set. Structures & culture within #NHS sometimes minimise this.
3. Successful implementation requires a mindset change from organisations & the media that it is a ‘team’ of professionals’ with differing skills & strengths working together. True multi-professional.
4. It also requires ring fenced sustained funding for education & training. Dedicated programmes that offer pathways for all professional groups opportunity to develop & fine hone those skills.
5. Real emphasis & needs to be given to why people come into these work environments & what is causing them to stay or leave. Without focus on these critical factors #NHS will continue to lose its most valuable resource, staff!
6. To attract more people into nursing, need to look at the whole package.

#Nursing has to be nationally, loudly proclaimed & recognised for the skill & value it offers to the health of the nation. @NN_England
7. And to retain those who join, there needs to be real opportunity to progress in clinical/academic/research driven careers with career pathways for people to step on & off.
8. Some of the workstreams are already in progress, but emphasis needs to be sustained & widely promoted @MattHancock
