1. There isn't much point trying to warn people about no deal consequences. The debate is now driven almost entirely by emotion. Ultra #Brexit loons don't understand trade and don't want to. This is more a tribal dispute and they don't care if they drag us all down.
2. Should it happen, though, I'm not going to have much sympathy. If MPs had put even a tenth of the effort into understanding the issues and forming an effective counter proposal as they have trying to frustrate Brexit we'd be in a lot better shape.
3. Instead we've seen them triangulating and scheming, wasting time and resources on their own internal bickering and most of them still struggle with basic terminology. Remoans have no more idea how the EU works than the ERG Brexiters.
4. For two years we have seen how utterly toothless and useless the committee system has been and MPs show little interest in exercising parliamentary sovereignty (except to avoid taking powers back from Brussels). Brexit is beyond their abilities.
5. Being that the case, they are in no shape to handle the fallout of no deal Brexit. Regulatory systems will cave in with no warning and the only way we can avoid a mess at the ports is to put physical limitations on what can be exported - winding down our EU trade.
6. That alone is going to soak up all of their political energies and there's no chance we will see an effective resolution to that any time soon. We don't have any high calibre politicians. There is a real danger that we may never recover our european trade.
7. For that reason alone I support May's deal. It is far from ideal but at least we get to fight another day. Even winding down single market membership is enough to be going on with. Dismantling the whole thing all at once is biting off more than we can chew.
